I'll say up front that the less than stellar check-in process we had was partly my fault. I didn't check to see that I wouldn't be contacted by them with our room info and how to get into the room until we got there at a guaranteed time of 4:30 PM. We got there a little early after driving 8 hours in hopes of maybe getting an early check-in. Of course, we didn't see anywhere or anyone to help us. Eventually, I found a gentleman who was on loan to the location due to a staff shortage. He helped me by making several phone calls. We eventually connected with someone who said we were early and the room wasn't ready yet. We would receive a text with all of the necessary info when the room was ready. So we parked on the property and waited. It was after 4:30 when I received the promised text. This whole thing was a little scary and I never received any communication from the place ahead of time like many places do with check-in info. So we get into the room, which was nice overall. As it was quite warm, I immediately looked for the air conditioner. There wasn't one, which I probably would have found out if I had read some of the reviews. The property didn't share that info. Every hotel or motel I've ever stayed in has had A/C. There were also no portable fans. There were 2 ceiling fans which helped a tiny bit. We put our food needing refrigeration into the refrigerator and went to bed. Sleep was difficult due to the heat and sheets not fitting properly. The elastic was old and the sheets moved when I did. The next morning, my wife tells me we have a big problem. The refrigerator wasn't working. The freezer worked but not the cooler part. Part of the problem we had was I had medication that needed to be refrigerated. She put an ice pack we brought from the freezer and placed in on my medication. All of the food was a crap shoot whether or not it was still edible. We called the after-hours line which no one answered. We left a voice mail explaining the issue. Shortly after their offices opened, we got a call. Their offices are in Lutsen which is about 20 minutes away. They brought a mini-frig which is what we ended up using for the week. This was after waiting about an hour. No attempt was made to repair or exchange the refrigerator. I also asked them to bring us some dish rags and dish towels as we didn't have any. One dish rag and one dish towel was provided along with 2 more hot pads, which we didn’t ask for or need. Knowing that they didn’t have any supplies on-site, we made our towels (bathroom and kitchen) last for the 8 days we were there. I later found out that we should have received housekeeping services as our stay was longer than 6 days. No such luck or contact of any kind from the property after the refrigerator issue. Also, the driveway and parking areas are dirt, which isn’t necessarily bad but there were deep and wide ruts from rain runoff that you had to inch across to avoid damage to your vehicle. We have stayed at Superior Ridge many times since it was first built nearly 30 years ago. They are now under new ownership (Eagle Mountain in Lutsen answers the phone), and the new ownership is wholly disappointing. Over the course of making and confirming our reservation, we made 3 calls to them, and each time the person we talked to was 'new and didn't know much about the property, but someone could call us back the next day.' We did not receive a call back in ANY of those cases. Upon arrival it was evident that the grounds aren't being kept up. There is a dead tree laying on the ground that hasn't been cleaned up, and the mowing/trimming aren't being kept up. The mattresses are broken down; the ceiling fans have heavy dust; the couch is also broken down and hard to get out of. We stayed for three nights, and the garbage wasn't emptied once. There was no welcome sheet with policies on it (just a text with a code to unlock the room door). The door doesn't even latch outside of using the deadbolt lock. Although the kitchen has a cooktop and oven, it now lacks some of the basic things that used to be here - baking/pizza pan, vegetable peeler, etc. We miss some of the other amenities as well - the office had free movie DVDs to borrow, the badminton area was not usable. There is no longer any on-site management, and the communication is done via texting (in an area with unreliable cell signal). It's unlikely that we will return. The North Shore has lost another affordable, family-friendly place of lodging. The poor customer service and follow-up in communication is greatly disappointing.

So when booking originally the owners had a pay at the time of the reservation. The original owners got bought out decided to change the policy after the original booking. 2 weeks before my booked trip, they called demanding a 50% non-refundable deposit. They said if the deposit wasn't given the booking would be canceled. I informed them that I don't have the money at the moment but I would have it at the time of the reservation, like originally agreed upon with the original booking and signing of the booking agreement. They broke contract and canceled the reservation leaving me and my family with no place to stay for our upcoming trip. I then saw them turn around and double the amount they were charging a night for the same room I booked. The new owners of this hotel are greedy scammers looking to take advantage of their customers
