First the good things: All of the staff (which is pretty bare bones) are very friendly and helpful. It feels like a family affair, and hotel hospitality is a hard business. Plenty of parking and near some restaurants (Applebee's, Ruby Tuesdays, etc), as their breakfast was, well, as they say in the South, "Bless their hearts". Again, they tried, but the eggs and sausage were, well, but at least the make it yourself waffles covered for some unspeakable breakfast sins. And the coffee? Yikes. The coffeemaker is a professional Bunn model, but I've never had coffee so bad. On to the room. The first room was very large, the room and bathroom clean and clean smelling. The actual bathroom though had broken/loose drain cover, a bit of rust on a shower seat (was a handicapped I was given but did not ask for). And after the first day, a sink that would not drain. Had to wait a day for them to change our room due to them being so booked and so many dirty rooms. So, in conclusion, I've stayed at many Sonestas in my life. This is a lower "model" of the Sonesta name, and even though the entry and sitting area was very nice, there were some glaring issues. Don't think I would stay at another Essential again.

I questioned why the hotel was empty on a weekend, now I know. The air conditioning was a constant on and off every 3-5 minutes however, driving on the freeway with windows open was less noisy. It kept us up all night. No shower cap, no hair dryer. The toilet was so low my 3 year old thought it was a kids potty. I’m in great shape and work out regularly and I struggled. The shower had as much power as an outdoor children’s sprinkler. I could not get my shampoo out of my hair. Yes I’m a curly girl. Free am breakfast was a treat if you only eat carbs. Potato patties, cereal, bagels, biscuits and gravy. Waffles and muffins, marble bread, toast and yogurt Coffee too. My husband grabbed a bagel with 2 butter pads. Both butter packs were hard and dry unable to be used. Very old. Cream cheese was ok. When we arrived 4 pm no one was at the desk. Had to ring. Took a few minutes to arrive. Left for dinner 5:00 pm empty desk. Back from dinner 7:40 empty desk. Out the next morning 7:00 am, Empty desk. This is a security concern for us with children.

Hotel has nice lobby and very good breakfast. The LED lights were a bit harsh. The 2nd stay during the week the room did not have a hair dryer and needed some finishing/cosmetic touches. The bed was fairly comfortable but the sheets were scratchy. The room felt fairly clean.

Excellent place to stay. Everything was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We bed and bath accessories were nice with soap and shampoos and conditioner. The price was very reasonable, I am sure at least $30 less than other proprietors in the same area. The breakfast was good and the coffee choices wonderful. There were plenty of choices for kids and adults. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

My friend and I stayed here for four nights in October 2024. We wanted something budget-friendly where we could have two beds and breakfast included. This seemed like a great deal. But, you really do get what you pay for. Pros: -Front desk staff are fantastic and super helpful! Peter was especially great checking us in and a couple times when we had issues. -Beds are comfy, if a bit high. -We loved the shower that was fully enclosed as opposed to the stupid half-wall things you see in most hotels these days. -The location was nice -- right off I-95 and only about 25 minutes into downtown Savannah. Plus, it was a quiet area. Cons: -They seem to still be renovating and there are some issues there. -The first room we had (312) had a leaky toilet, so they got us moved to the room next door (314 -- Thanks, Peter!). -The air conditioner broke overnight on our first night, but we didn't really notice until we got back that day. We called the front desk and Peter came with a maintenance guy and they got it working again. However, it stayed stuck on 60 degrees for the rest of our stay, which was a little chilly...but better that than hot. And, we preferred not to have to repack and move rooms again. -Even though we liked the spaciousness and enclosed nature of the shower, the tile had seen better days and could use with a refresh, though it was clean. -There were no towel racks or hooks anywhere in the bathroom except for one underneath the sink for hand towels. Also, there was no toilet paper holder on the wall, so it was just sitting on the back of the toilet. -Some of the towels and one of the duvets had stains on them (like old, set-in stains that weren't too concerning, but they really should update the linens). -The breakfast was abysmal. I had a bagel, and it was incredibly stale. There also wasn't any cream cheese for the bagels, which was odd. They only have two cereal choices, and based on the length of time the bagels had been sitting out, I wouldn't trust the pancake mix or the other items. We ate at McDonald's down the road instead. Hopefully, they'll get things running smoother as they finish the renovations and Choice Hotels fully takes over. But, as it is now, I wouldn't stay there again.

We stayed for 3 nights while we visited Savannah. The staff was great especially Sid at the front desk. He was amazing during check in. He even greeted us each evening as we came back from our Savannah adventures. I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were very roomy. The beds were definitely 5 star. The breakfast was hot and pancakes were a nice offer. If we are ever had n the area we will definitely be staying again.

Deplorable customer service! Front desk representative Ashton is a joke! She has zero customer service skills. She is extremely disrespectful and arrogant to seniors who are guest in your hotel. Savannah Georgia deserves a better presentation from businesses in the area with enthusiastic personnel who is willing to give guest a memorable experience! One that will keep us coming back! The Grand Savannah needs to remove Ashton from her role in the front office. I’m 73 years old and a black senior. I will not sit back quite and allow your representative (Ashton) to get away with her nasty attitude towards black seniors!
