Our tour of the main wine-producing areas of the Loire Valley continued with Stage 6: Chinon to Saumur (Day 7 in France). We were now based in Saumur on our first day here. This is a Chambres d’Hôtes, meaning it was ‘bed and breakfast’ accommodation; it was (in this case) ensuite rooms located within a home, owned and lived-in, by the owner’s family. We had stayed here for a single night back in July 2019, and on this tour we decided to stay again, but for two nights. The location is very convenient for the town-centre (only a brisk 10-minute walk) and far enough out-of-town to be able to park in the nearby streets. The ensuite rooms, the corridors and stairs were very clean. The owner and his partner were kind, helpful and pleasant. The shower was very good with adequate hot water and good clean towels. Sleep quality was excellent. We found that we could easily let ourselves in and out. Wi-fi was available, and in the rooms in we stayed we had access to plenty of electrical sockets for recharging phones etc. We could not find a restaurant booking on the first night of our stay and kindly the owner helped us find a nearby and very fine restaurant. The owner was also able to discover that another restaurant was open that we thought would be closed. We contacted that restaurant and we dined there on the second evening. Our room was on the third floor this time. There are four upper floors here and it was stairs all the way, which is not great when carrying cases. We had a pleasant two night stay, with a simple breakfast, which was all we needed.
