Had an overall good experience at SMH. When you drive up and see the classic motel on busy Lincoln Blvd, you're first thought is what did I choose? But inside is all modern and up-to-date. Check in was smooth. The rooms are like new and very clean. It was cool outside and the screened windows open to allow in fresh air. Shower is large and comfortable. We really did not notice any traffic noise inside the compound. Our only warning is to beware of the rooms immediately next to the one outdoor table and lounge chairs. Several guests, including ourselves, used them to eat breakfast or evening snacks and while no one was intentionally loud or lingered very long, you can clearly hear people talking when your window is open, which can be disturbing for light sleepers. This only affects a few rooms. But even being in one of these rooms, I actually had my best sleep of our vacation at this hotel. It's a pleasant walk one-mile walk through residential neighborhoods, with a few bigger street crossings, to the beach and the Santa Monica Pier; quite doable, although it is uphill from the beach back to the hotel.

The hotel is a drive-up motel where you park near your room. When we arrived, around 4pm, the door to the little office was locked and I was wondering “now what?”, but within a minute or two the front desk person opened the door. (One staff member was working and he explained he couldn’t leave the door unlocked when he went to the restroom.) Once open, the front desk person checked us in rather quickly. He was quite friendly. The hotel room itself was clean and looked recently remodeled. The room and the bathroom were both small with not much space. In the office area in the morning one can pick up coffee or tea along with some yoghurt and granola bars. It was fine for the one night we needed to be there.

We looked for a hotel near Santa Monica and this brought us to the Santa Monica Hotel...strategic location and everything ok

My husband and I came here for our tenth wedding anniversary and had a great stay, despite getting incredibly bad sunburns the very first day. The location was great, the free self-parking was a huge plus, the room was very nice, the cost was good, and most importantly, everyone we met there was so friendly and helpful. One person in particular, Ty, was so, so kind. She answered all my questions prior to booking and up until we got there. When she found out about our sunburns, she offered to get us some aloe vera. She really went above and beyond for us, and we're so grateful. :)
