Lovely holiday resort with beautiful beaches and surf. Good sailing. Weather in February was ideal for us being from Scotland. We did have an issue with island water supply and suffered restrictions in use for all of our two week stay. This was not good but we did not let it spoil our holiday.

The resort was suffering a water issue whilst we were there. However, this did not detract from our overall experience, just meant that we had to make minor adaptations for the hours during the day when there was no water. Staff are very friendly. Food is good. Yes, as some people complain, there are a few areas that could do with refreshing and taking care of, such as pool tiles. Cleanliness is good. Our biggest issues were not being informed upon arrival about the water issue, though it was on the tv information screen in the room, it would have been polite to inform in person. Plus the beauty and hair salon, despite my confirmation in English and French, still messed up my appointment. Also, we were offered as part of our inclusive holiday, an evening meal in one of the restaurants and a lunch bbq. By the time our rep had sorted this out, it was too late to get our choices. Would come back but would clarify a few things in advance

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. There was no running water at the hotel. NOT the hotel's fault but they were unable to deal with the problem. On arrival our rooms were not ready and we had to wait over an hour. No explanation was given, probably because it was difficult to clean without water!! . WE were not told about the water problem on arrival even though it had been off for 3 days, We had to fill waste buckets with pool water to flush the toilet. When the water was actually on, the pressure was so low it became difficult to shower. We had to ask for sanitizers to be made available. The rooms were clean however they were very shabby and the air conditioning had a mind of its own. The beds were incredibly hard. The food was very average, we had to eat at the buffet every night bar one. The food on the buffet was never temperature checked and was generally tepid, also the food choice was poor apart form the salad selection. The same desserts were on display for 3 days in a row (after Valentines Day so easy to recognise) A cockroach was observed running into the kitchen. Staff generally not very helpful in fact on one occasion when I asked for a gin and tonic the reply was NO! ( without any explanation). Not sure if this is cultural or just lack of training. TUI the tour operator KNEW about the water supply problem for 3 days before our departure and did NOT give us the opportunity to cancel or rebook. Our friends were supposed to join us the next day WERE told and they did not travel. And the good points......... The pools were clean and there were plenty of sun loungers. We ate at the Italian restaurant one night and had a very good meal, with helpful and friendly staff. Drinks are local brands unless you pay an extra 50 Euros a day to upgrade. Wine at dinner was passable.

We booked a week here through Tui,never been to Cape Verde before but really enjoyed it. We upgraded to VIP and are really glad we did. Hotel was very nice, maybe needs a bit of a refurb here and there but generally good. We booked a swim up room which was lovely. Level pool area and staff great especially Paolo. Main buffet for dinner however in our view was very poor but having VIP meant we could eat and drink and at other hotels either side run by Melia. Signori Sassi at Melia Dunas really good and Remy was a great host. Bikini beach food good and nice place and we also liked Aqua Nikkei at the Melia Tortuga and the VIP tasting menu at Nami was excellent. We will go again and probably book direct next time.

Stayed at the melia lana for one week .Hotel and room were nice however. As previously mentioned on here there was major issues with the water , which according to other guest was happening before our arrival. We were not informed about this by Tui. Staff disinterested and were poor at communicating when the water issues would be resolved.Told that the whole island was experiencing problems , however speaking to guest staying at other hotels this didn’t seem to be the case. No hand sanitiser sent to rooms luckily I had brought a small pocket one. Public toilets not shut off eventually large buckets of water for guest to pour down toilet were brought by staff. Not what you expect of somewhere that is supposed to be 5 star. The smell coming through the drains in the room was sickening. Given there was no running water I have serious doubts that proper basic food hygiene was being carried out. Guests unable to have showers with some resorting to the sea and pool just to freshen up. Water issues aside the hotel also has issues with how food is prepared and served .Witnessed many guest leaving food due to the food temperature, large joint of pork with blood still running from it , I avoided all meat and mainly had chips and pizza. Both of us had bouts of sickness and diarrhoea This trip was supposed to be for my honeymoon , would not recommend.

This is NOT a 5-star reaort. Not enough facilities for the guests, poor quality food unless you pay extra for vip or a la carte. No water for showers or flushing toilet unless its 10pm at night A spa hotel with No spa due to lack of water Total disgrace - DO NOT VISIT unless this is resolved

This wasn’t my first experience of Melia but it will definitely be my last. My main issue was the quality of the food and overall dining experience. Both were truly dreadful. On the first night we ate at the buffet restaurant Mosaico. It’s a vast hall with multiple food stations. None of it looked appetising. The chicken and pork dishes we chose were lukewarm, the fries were cold. The wine we were served was undrinkable. We barely touched the food as we were concerned about food poisoning. The wine was left untouched apart from the first sip. Casa Nostra, supposedly a classy Italian was awful. It’s a cavernous terrace where breakfast is also served. There’s nothing in the design that suggests it’s an Italian restaurant. I had a Toscana salad to start which was ok (it took 35 minutes to arrive). My main, Chicken Milanese was ghastly. It wouldn’t have been out of place in some low-rent fried chicken shop. My wife had had the shrimp spaghetti. She said it tasted like tinned spaghetti with tasteless, rubbery shellfish added. I made a point of looking round the restaurant. Everyone looked throughly miserable. After that we hoped Nami would deliver on its promise of great Asian food. The moment we arrived we were read a long list of dishes on the menu that were not available. No tuna at all which was key to the dishes we really fancied. What we had was average at best - and yet again there was a lack of atmosphere is a soulless identikit space. The next night was chaos. You have to book restaurants in advance via WhatsApp. We were told we had confirmed booking at Pura Vida, the BBQ restaurant. We arrived and we were told there was no booking in our name. As there were many empty tables we asked if they could fit us in. The answer was an emphatic “no”, even as I showed them the WhatsApp message from reception that supposedly confirmed our booking. Turns out we had two bookings at at this and another restaurant for the following night - a mistake reception admitted was their fault. That’s enough on the food. Briefly on other matters. We booked an “ocean view” room as part of The Level VIP option. Well if you stood up on the terrace you could just about see the sea through a maze of parasols. If you sat at the table or on a sun lounger all you saw was a dusty hedge. The room was clean and big. The mini bar didn’t get replenished very often. We also had to buy mosquito coils as they don’t supply them. The hotel complex is vast - we christened it a “tourist farm.” It makes it all feel a bit impersonal but the grounds are nice with lots of tropical greenery including coconut palms, hibiscus and oleander. And on a final note, the staff are lovely. Any positives in this review are massively undermined by the truly terrible food and dining offer. There is no way this can be classified a 5-star hotel with as long as the current failings continue.
