Melia Llana Beach Resort & Spa

As an airline cabin manager I have visited ALOT of hotels for both work and pleasure, I always leave a very honest review! This hotel is just a normal 5* hotel, yes in other countries 5* means different but I personally don’t have any major complaints and would recommend this hotel for a relaxing adults only holiday! We arrived on Monday 21st July, the lady at reception who checked us in made the process very easy, explained everything to us and confirmed our bookings made via email for the Italian and bbq. We were aware we had to pay the tax (€45 for 9 nights) which we could pay by card or cash. We were surprised to find out that there was free internet for the communal areas and a separate free interment for the rooms. This was fabulous internet and we couldn’t fault it! We wished we had known before how good the internet was! We purchased a deluxe swim up room, and it did not disappoint. The room was spotless when we arrived, the pool clean, sunbeds perfect, mini bar stocked, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in shower and hand soap and body lotion by sinks… We didn’t bother with the hotel pool towels at a €40 deposit as we had our own and thought €40 was very steep to hire towels (maybe €5-€10 would be plenty) The drinks we drunk throughout our 9 nights were perfectly acceptable and my husband said it’s one of the better beers he has had at an all inclusive! The “fake” aperol spritz (bitter spritz) was more than drinkable and the coffee from the machine at breakfast was pleasant! The main buffet, we used for breakfast, lunch and dinner most days, the fresh omelettes at breakfast I ate most mornings and were a delight! The lunch and dinner options were plentiful and no different to any other all inclusive we have visited (yes the food is only ever warm and the choice might not be to everyone’s taste) but we ate well and didn’t struggle at all! They do have a fresh meat and fish option being cooked and the tuna steak on a few evenings was lovely, boiling hot and cooked perfect! The pool bar at lunch was lovely, the food made to order and fresh. We also tried out the Italian and bbq (more of a steak place) which were both very good, only complaint was although the food is cooked fresh it was still only warm… Our room was cleaned daily, mini bar restocked every 2 days, fresh towels daily and the room was kept spotless! Only thing there was NO coffee in the room, and as coffee drinker this was very annoying, luckily we brought some of our own but it wasn’t enough to last the whole 9days, a 5* hotel really needs to supply coffee in a room. The staff were all extremely friendly, some even remembering our drink order which was nice. No complaints can be made about any staff member’s! Maybe a consideration by the hotel would be to have 1 or 2 plug in mosquito replants as these are a huge problem in Cape Verde! The Melia Llana is like home from home for us. The staff are exceptional and always go above and beyond, nothing is too much trouble. The entertainments team were amazing and such good dancers, especially Lentino who is very passionate about what he does and his robotic dancing is exceptional.
