The grounds are beautiful in the summer. The air conditioner worked well. It was very nice they upgraded our room to a suite.

Got in just after midday. Room was ready. That was a good sign, but the last one. Room had a fireplace and reeked of smoke. Somewhere outside/above the room there was a beeping noise about every minute, 24/7. The topper was a dirty rag hanging on the shower curtain rod. Went to the front desk. They said they would take care of all three. They replaced air filter in room. A little better with the smoke smell, but still not great. Maintenance came and somehow could not figure out how to stop the beeping. They had no solution for the noise, not even a new room available. I hardly slept all week. The dirty rag? I waited three days to see if they would take care of it. It stayed there until I knocked it on the floor (with a hangar), then it disappeared. The pool was dirty, and we would not go in. All in all a complete dud.

Elegant but beautiful low-key campus-style resort with rambling pathways leading to guest rooms, pool, full-service spa, fountains and many "easter egg" vignettes and mini-plazas to enjoy and relax in. Pleasantly-rustic but functional room furnishings, exceptionally comfortable beds and pillows. Excellent food. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

The location is perfect, within walking distance of the downtown area and restaurants. The original home turned into lobby is beautiful and the bar and restaurant areas are quaint. Our room was upgraded to a fireplace room, which unfortunately smelled like a campfire. The floor was not level so the head of our bed was actually lower than the foot of the bed. We weren’t offended by this because the hotel appeared old and historic so this just added to it. However, the bathroom had no room to store much and it was in need of a very good overall cleaning. The sink, toilet, and shower were surface-clean, but the dust around the floors around sink and throughout as well as the marred paint made you question cleanliness in general. The worst was that our “upgraded” room made all of our clothes smell like a campfire. When we unpacked clothing at our next hotel, our clothes wreaked. The rooms of this hotel really need an upgrade. We’ve stayed in other hotels with fireplaces and have never experienced this before. Our room also ran very warm even with a/c cranked down. We used points for this room. We would have been extremely disappointed if we paid the going rate. It’s still tough as a Platinum member to experience this and have used our hard-earned points for a subpar experience.

Looks nothing like the photos online. The gardens are so grown that you can hardly view the hotel from the parking lot. A stay here is not for the weak. Registration is very far from the parking lot, you literally cannot see the entrance. They do have an abundance of luggage carts and that is great so you can go back out to the parking lot and get your luggage. If you are lucky, you will get a room on the first floor but check which end of the hallway you are at. The trains run around the clock and they sound quite close. Of course they are nice enough to leave you complimentary ear plugs. If you are lucky enough to get a room on the second floor, you may not hear the train but you get the privilege of carrying all your stuff to the second floor as there is no elevator. For the money,I expected better. The lobby and the gift shop are quite beautiful but our room appeared to be unfinished, the bed had just a plywood platform below it.

The location and the patio restaurant are the highlights of this hotel. The location is excellent - two or three blocks from the plaza, as well as about three blocks from the beginning of Canyon Road and its art galleries. While there are some hotels closer to the plaza, they would be a longer walk from Canyon Road. I’m in my late 60s, and easily walked from the hotel to the main stretch of the Canyon Road galleries (and back). The outdoor patio was a delightful setting for both dinner and breakfast. Marriott elites should be aware that the free breakfast for Bonvoy platinum and above offers only a limited choice of 4 or 5 items, and does not include the tip. I passed on that, and ordered the fruit plate for breakfast, which was very nice and quite large - one of the best fruit plates I’ve had. I booked a Sage room (over the spa) to be sure I would have access to an elevator, since other rooms are either ground floor (where people walk past your windows) or require climbing steps. My room had a small balcony that overlooked a rooftop- other rooms on this level had larger balconies with apparently nicer views. There is a nice open air sitting area one floor above this level, which apparently few people notice. The hotel grounds are pretty and atmospheric, and help make up for rooms that could definitely use a refresh. My room was a decent size, but rather dark, and the furnishings needed updating. The hotel offers an on-demand shuttle service to Museum Hill or certain other areas (I think they said within 2 miles) but I did not use it.

Great place that gives you a western feel! The staff will get your room heated up in winter by lighting a fire for you in the fireplace of each unit. The main lobby is really designed as a western homage and I believe was used in scenes of Better Call Saul!

Was not happy with this hotel: 1. I have bonvoy status and yet I was given a terrible room. 2. The room was not as advertised. The room was a shoebox and we had zero room for our bags. Also it was not decorated in the same way as shown on the website. 3. Heard my neighbors when they talked, sneezed, coughed, etc. 4. Room was dark. Couldn’t keep the window shade open since people walked by and could look in. 5. Staff not friendly. 6. Pool area was gross. People left their plates, drinks, towels and it was not cleaned up timely by the staff. 7. Our unit had one shared outdoor table for 3 rooms. Other rooms had much more ample outdoor seating. 8. No water in the room. Hotels usually leave 2 bottles of water in the room. 9. TV was not on a bracket that rotated. So we couldn’t watch it in bed. 10. Bathtub was slippery. 11. No full length mirror. The only positive was that it was a decent location, the gym was decent and the premises were nice.
