The room is large and high, so the heating doesn't seem to be very strong, which is the characteristic of the old building! The breakfast is OK, but the American coffee is not good. You can order other freshly ground coffee. The historical heritage of the hotel is the reason why I chose to stay here, and parking is convenient.

The manor is beautiful, the front desk service is very good, always smiling, the European breakfast is good, the room is clean and odorless, the garden is playful, there is a very large banyan tree which is very rare, but notice that there are some stairs in front of the front desk.

A superb historic property under private management and ownership - actually, in the ownership of the same family for over 400 years altho’ now a member of the Small Luxury Hotels marketing system affiliated with Hilton. The property in its adjoining Gardens are a destination in themselves, along with the nearby (400m) Santa Clara monastery. They may be sufficient for some visitors, but it’s about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Coimbra and it’s main historical area.
Arthur Wellesley - aka Viscount Wellington - was a visitor during his Iberian campaign, so you’re in good company.
Staff are superb and obviously hand picked by the owner. The receptionist when I arrived (Evening of Sunday 16 February) was simply the best I’ve ever experienced, Singapore, Bangkok and Tokyo included. Genuinely fascinating to talk to about the history of the building and some of the previous guests (famous but ‘passed’ celebrities so no confidence is breached).
Best to stay in the rooms in the main building if possible, if tales of the previous occupant intrigue. Although the spa Is impressive – up to best Thai standards - and I guess the adjoining spa rooms may be equally good.
Overall, an absolute gem that far exceeded expectations.

Beautiful historic palace hotel set in lush gardens, with a pool, spa, restaurants, and walking trails tied to the Pedro & Inês tragic love story. Excellent English-speaking staff and outstanding service throughout. We stayed in a garden room with direct outdoor access, which opened directly onto a private outdoor area furnished with table and chairs as well as having easy paths to the spa and pool. Breakfast buffet was excellent, with an omelet station. Rooms have several outlets, but most are low and behind furniture so bring long charging cables. No USB ports noted. Bathtub can be slippery when used for showers. Stay at least 3 nights; this is more than a hotel, it’s a destination.

Um hotel icónico com base na história de amor trágica que o envolve. Foi uma relação amor-ódio. Ficamos divididos na nossa opinião. Para um hotel de 5* existem pequenos apontamentos que fazem a diferença, para além do pessoal, também pagamos as comodidades e todo o aspeto visual do que torna um hotel em luxo. Passo a citar: - Rodapés estragados/danificados no quarto, tapetes rasgados e lagos interiores com musgo e sem fontes a funcionar como deve de ser são alguns pormenores que podiam ser tido em conta; - Pequeno almoço oferecido com pouca variedade quando se pensa num hotel de luxo, ainda assim, tudo saboroso e impecavelmente disposto; - Tomadas na zona do bar/gastro bar, para carregar o telemóvel ou o computador, de forma trabalhar numa zona sossegada, simplesmente não funcionavam - Espreguiçadeiras do spa/piscina nada confortáveis, frias e rijas; zona do banho turco estava suja com cotão. No entanto, todo o pessoal era bastante cordial, prestável e profissional! Os recepcionistas do hotel foram incansáveis no trabalho e a disponibilidade mostrada. Nota-se bem o conhecimento da região.

Quinta das Lágrimas has such an important and interesting place in Portuguese history, which we enjoyed learning about during our stay. The old house and surrounding gardens are beautiful and romantic, even in the winter. Our room was in the spa wing, and it was large and comfortable, but the “Queen” bed was actually two twins pushed together (which is common in Europe), the shower flooded easily, and the bathroom door was extremely difficult to lock and unlock. As Canadians, we were also surprised to learn that we were not allowed to use the indoor pool without a swimming cap.
