Two nights stay
Stay was fine, rooms are clean and cozy and there is absolute silence, food not really special for the price. Joze is a good guide, but sometimes a bit overreacting, which I find unprofessional, also watching boundaries might help to make the place more comfortable for the guests.

Awesome huts to sleep in, very amazing view staring right at the volcano. José is super funny, can cook, brings you up the volcano and represents the Cabo Verdean kitchen and culture well! It is calm and quiet, very peaceful surroundings that feel like magic. I stayed here twice and would go back a second time. Highly recommended.

Very unsafe , Jose has particularly problematic behaviours towards women! Run away from there. After my stay I called the french embassy to warn them about my experience there and the embassy told me I was the third person calling them about Jose in the last month.... I felt very unsafe and would recommend you do not stay there !!

José was initially very helpful and courteous. However, we had a big problem with him: He had offered to book us a return aluguer (1000 cve/one way/pers) or a private taxi (6000 cve one way) We confirmed the reservation of a collective aluguer. When we arrived, José came to pick us up. Without knowing it, he counted the trip for us as a private taxi. The same for the return! A total of 120 euros!!!!!!!! We refused to pay this amount and to pay the price of an aluguer. He refused. We had to go to the police station who finally accepted that we did not pay this amount. In view of Jose's aggressiveness, the police decided to escort us to the airport and fortunately because Jose was waiting for us a few streets away....

Nice discovery. Jose is a man who is imaginative and has built simple but perfectly kept rooms. The shower system is ingeniously designed with a rooftop wood-fired heating system for the water which is manually filled through different canisters. Jose does not lack courage or energy to maintain his small hotel and take care of his guests. Delicious breakfast.

José's "fort", entirely decorated by himself with local lava stones, is a work of art (Gaudi? Hundertwasser?). José is a great host! He knows how to do everything: driver, hiking guide, plumbing, electricity, meals, awalé lessons, lava stone cutting... very kind with the children (3 and 7 years old) who loved their stay in the volcano. .. the children would have even liked to stay one or two more days to play with the little cats at the boarding house, play football with the village children, go for another hike, eat squash, chicken and rice prepared by José, perfect their awalé technique. Furthermore, the rooms were very clean, the showers were hot and there was electricity... and even wifi! Contrary to the description announced by our green geoguide.

Passing through, not even staying there, Jose welcomed us, served a basic, but welcome meal. He organized the hike for us, picked us up at the destination to take us back to the village. the accommodations seem clean and correct, the site is atypical and welcoming.
