Ala Mar by the Sea

We got the King Suite here . Not cheap but it was worth it for the beautiful ocean view with balcony! A few little things could’ve made it much more pleasant, however. It was confusing to check in - had to go to front desk at next door motel, and the clerk was rushed and a bit unprofessional. Also, it was nearly impossible to figure out how to use the TV, a cheat sheet is a necessity. Lastly, it would’ve been so nice to have a little coffee maker in the room, like most other motels have (even Motel 6). Other than that, we had a great experience in this historic and beautiful place.

We paid for a budget motel so expected it to be less quality than mid range hotels. We didnt quite expect it to be so poor within the 1st room we occupied. We were jet lagged and just keen to go into our room for a rest. We were offered a free upgrade which we were excited for. Unfortunately the room was shocking. And although we had booked x 2 Queen beds , we only had a single and a double so my husband slept on the floor. Room number 121. The photos will hopefully give you an idea of the issues. Dirty, old fashioned, not acceptable even for the price we paid . The following day we spoke to reception who gave us another room. The new room was much better. Cleaner, 2 x queen beds, great view over the beach. We were happy with this room and there is nothing we would complain about. A restful sleep and we are ready to continue our road trip. This was room 113. No issues whatsoever. Very happy with it. There is a chronic under supply of staff here which Unfortunately impacts on the customer experience. The receptionist, whilst she tried her best, was always under pressure to be meeting the needs of a lot of tourists and the phone going constantly. It's unfair on her. So to close, if you're offered room 121, do not accept it. Any others I think would e ok.

pictures not like on *******! a motel not a hotel! disgusting, unclean, dirt everywhere, toilet had crap from prior guest, candy on floor, no blankets, window on top of side of bed and shutters never cleaned, cobwebs everywhere, rude check in (done on property across street!), floor unsafe, half used toilet paper roll on toilet (no TP holder), half used dirty dial soap bottle on sink (no vanity), chunks of cement on floor , paint all over things on celing and room, check in gave our room key to someone else who came in our room and then apolgized, check in was rude and dirty too

The location in relation to the train station and the beach is spectacular. The neighborhood is late-night-walking to the hotel, very friendly. There were multiple families walking with us down the street to other hotels/hostels after our midnight arrival on Amtrak

Arrived and had long wait at registration. Gave us wrong key and had to go back and wait again. Finally got to our room and noticed an unhealthy amount of black mold in the bathroom. Fridge was also not cleaned. Had to wait a long time again to get room changed. Second room smoke detector was covered with tin foil. Fridge also unclean. Had trouble with heater. No one was at the registration desk when we checked out, so left a phone and text message. It has been 3 days and nobody got back to us.
