We stayed at Blackaddie for a family event for an evening in the Pheasant room. Clean, well appointed room, although up a rather narrow staircase, we were offered assistance with our bags by the proprietor. Room had plenty of storage, large comfortable bed, and a bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. The room was cosy and quiet. Plenty of choice for breakfast, and the food was delicious. We didn't dine in for dinner, but the menu looked delightful. There were a couple of choices - bar-meals and fine dining, both looked like there was plenty of choice at whatever price point suited.

We spent a very enjoyable couple of days at this hotel. It is conveniently located within the walking distance from the town, but also out of the way enough to be quiet and relaxing. There are plenty of nice walks in the vicinity. The room we stayed in (Mallard) had a wonderful view over the river Nith, and it was a pleasure watching the sun set from our window. Bath robes and nice toiletries were provided. We had dinner at the hotel on both nights. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfasts were also good quality. Overall, a great family run hotel, and a relaxing break.

Service and amenities needs to improve
Blackaddie is a beautiful building, with a sophisticated interior and gorgeous food in a lovely place. Where it needs to improve is in communication with guests-I was staying there alone and I was locked out one night. The owner came quickly but I had no knowledge of this. I was actually really upset at the time and after about it. It scared me.
My room was small as expected for the price and nicely done out but it lacked amenities. In the beverages offered, and also things like an iron and hairdryer. I enjoyed the Elemis products but they weren’t replaced and my bed was neither made, nor serviced properly for cups. I had a cup of tea in the same cup the next again day.
The best thing about Blackaddie is the house, the dining room, the bar and the food. When I asked for things they were given to me but wifi access was not visible in the room. When I asked, I was told it was there. It wasn’t.
Unfortunately, the bed was also uncomfortable.
I think it has all the potential but with my experience it is not currently 4 stars, and this is what I was expecting.
