The inn was clean, and the employees were well informed and nice. Great views of the beach from the unit and fun times collecting shells. The free use of the umbrellas and beach chairs were great. The only big downside was the air conditioning being broken for 6 hours while it was 90 degrees outside. We really appreciate the AC technicians staying there late and getting it working again, but it sure put a damper on the stay. We were hoping to make this a yearly trip, but we are seriously rethinking that now.

Everything needed is available and the proximity to the beach is the best. We rarely ate out since we could cook our own meals. Chairs are set up for guests every day and towels are provided. We always enjoy our stay here!

I usually travel alone and I felt completely safe at the Island Inn. The inn is clean and well cared for, everything is in tip-top condition! In addition, the employees were all very kind. The free use of the umbrellas and beach chairs are the icing on the cake! Some other resorts on the island charge you $$ to sit under an umbrella.

We stayed here in May of 2022 and absolutely loved the atmosphere and how we were treated during our stay. This was our first visit to the island, since hurricane Ian, and wanted to go nowhere else but the Island Inn. We were somewhat disappointed with our stay this time around. The relaxing beach experience we were hoping for was interrupted daily when we were constantly asked if we were done with our umbrella. If I have my chair under an umbrella and I'm sitting on my chair, YES I want my umbrella. We were napping and rudely awakened at 3:30pm to ask if we still wanted our umbrella. That is not relaxing, we felt like we were being rushed. We felt that if we weren't in our chairs that they would remove the umbrella and we would have to leave the beach. Second, check out time is 11am. We packed up most of our belongings and went to breakfast, 7:30am. Came back to the Inn to shell and enjoy the beach (9am) until check out, and came back to our room open, beds stripped, bathroom ripped apart , right down to having no TP. We were kicked out of our room and hadn't even checked out yet. When we notified the desk of this, all she said was "you can still enjoy the beach". The first visit in 2022 was an experience where it felt like the patrons mattered and were treated to a special integrated island experience. The second visit in 2025 merely felt like any other hotel stay...thank you for the money, come back again. And to be clear, this isn't about amenities or construction or dealing with adversities following the devastating effects from Hurricane Ian; we prepared ourselves for what changes would be faced. This is about how the overall feel was that the patron no longer mattered and the exclusive resort feel had disappeared. This visit wasn't like the first time, and we couldn't wait to get back to the island and support all the businesses. We will return to Sanibel Island for our next Florida vacation, but will second guess another stay at the Island Inn.

We just left this wonderful inn. The people were so kind and welcoming, the room (actually more of a condo) was beautiful and had everything we needed. The beach in front of the inn was beautiful and had better shells than most places on the island! The balcony, which was screened in, was beautiful, we ate breakfast there every day! There were chairs and umbrellas on the beach. You can’t beat the sunset as well. This was our first time back to Sanibel since the devastating hurricanes. There were plenty of restaurants open and lots of shops are coming back too. We’ll be back!

We have stayed at the Island Inn many times. However, this was our first stay since the hurricanes hit Sanibel. The rooms in Matthews Lodge were just as great as ever. The beach had a great many more shells. The chairs and umbrellas made sitting on the beach very peaceful and enjoyable. The staff was as friendly and welcoming as ever. While so much has changed, we were glad to support the Island Inn and all the other familiar businesses on Sanibel. It is important to show your loyalty to such a wonderful place and the people who live and work there. We will be back again in the near future!

Gulf front property with covered parking. Immaculately clean with beautiful decor. Lovely screened in porch with a sink/counter to wash your seashells or other use that you might have. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about area dining options. We didn’t take advantage of all amenities but there are many.
