Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat

What I liked a lot: Well situated to visit main attractions in Sepilok: Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre/Sunbear centre/Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), free shuttle bus to the main attractions (09h-14h-16) which was really great. Also offer tours at reasonable prices e.g. Mangroves & Firefly Cruise (recommended). Free water dispenser. To note: rooms are very basic (there is airco), we had some ants in the room, bathroom is outside. Breakfast was limited and minimal. When we were there internet was not functional, luckily we had taken local simcard before with unlimited data so for us, this was not a big issue. Before coming to the hotel, I had sent a mail to have info about tours they offered, but never received a reply therefore I had booked tours with an agency which in the end was more expensive then when I would have it booked with Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat. Possible to book tours on the spot (no need to reserve before coming) but I did not know this in advance.

Amazing experience!! I loved this unique hotel, it was a tick off the bucket to stay in the rainforest! The staff are so friendly and the food is excellent and great value for money. It is very easy to get to the animal centres and I was still able to access the internet so could order grab taxis. I’d definitely recommend bringing bug spray! 100% would recommend, where else can you stay in the rainforest?!

Overpriced but great location Cute eco lodge near attractions in Sepilok. Beautiful views in the morning and staff offers competitive rates on tours and transport. I appreciated the free shuttle to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. The property is not as pristine as the photos and I feel was overpriced for what it was.

I stayed here for four nights and I could easily have stayed longer. This place feels like a piece of heaven. I had a beautiful simple cabin with a stunning view. Every night I could hear animals crawling and scrambling on the roof. It was really a unique experience! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially Sila. The restaurant had some nice food for a decent price and breakfast was good. Not a lot, but sufficient. There was always coffee and tea for free and they kept my snacks for free in their fridge during my stay so the animals could not smell it in my cabin. Their shuttle service was very good. It was easy to communicate with the driver if I was going to need his service when I was out exploring. And If I wanted to go elsewhere I was always told the price beforehand. I went on almost all of their excursions and can recommend all of them. If you’re looking for a relaxing cabin in the middle of nature this is the perfect place. I cannot recommend it enough.

We had a truly magical family stay at Paganakan Dii. You really are staying in nature. We saw a hornbill bird while eating lunch, a monkey drop out of a tree above us as we walked up to the hotel, and the view from our balcony felt like we were living in the treetops. The room was functional and clean. The staff helpful and friendly. And the food tasty and plentiful. You are so close to the airport and sanctuaries, and the hotel organised our trip to the Kinabatangan River. Would highly recommend to get an authentic Borneo experience.
