Castro - Upper Market
I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. The location is convenient to the Castro neighborhood, but there were problems. Because it is across the street from a grocery store, delivery trucks begin arriving every day around 5AM. They park on the street in front of the hotel and it was very noisy. If you are ok getting up at 5:00AM, it may not be a problem for you. In the evening, the loud music from the lobby bar, and the loud patrons on the sidewalk, make sleeping an issue. If you are ok with loud noise until 1:00 or 1:00AM, then maybe that's ok for you. Lastly, the door access, elevator and room codes stopped working after day 3. It took customer service almost 20 minutes to respond to my chat and texts. I was finally given new codes, but those codes worked only once. Another 20 min with customer service. Every time I left my room, the codes stopped working. I spent a lot of time standing in the rain and cold on the sidewalk waiting for codes. In all, I spent 3 hours on a Sunday afternoon trying to get reliable access to my room. I eventually gave up and decided to skip my holiday party and just stay in my room. I didn't want to risk trying to get in at 10 or 11PM. There is no onsite help, and their virtual help is overwhelmed and can't respond in a timely way. For my trouble, they offered to refund the $50 cleaning fee. I didn't realize there was a $50 cleaning fee. There are a lot of hotels in San Francisco; I wouldn't choose this one again.
Twin Peaks Hotel

Castro - Upper Market
Cheap and old hotel that is suitable for 1 or 2 nights (no tikis mikis or those with glamorous pretensions) We got a room with a private bathroom, for approximately 80 a night. Don't expect quality, it's old and I understand that they are going to renovate it little by little since the reception is removing the carpet for a wooden floor. The room is 15 meters and had an exterior window, a somewhat rattly spring mattress but my back can accept it for at least 1 night. They have given the bathroom a touch and improved it. The infrastructure is basic but the cleanliness is more than acceptable. Don't expect luxury, the landings smell a bit strange I suppose because of the carpet (typical smell of this type of hotel with carpet) Summary, if you want to get to know this neighborhood this hostel hotel is a very good option. Difficult parking area, everything is charged The staff is nice, especially the one who checked us out, a charm 😊 They let you leave your bags in the luggage storage. The neighborhood is very nice, almost immersed and a few blocks from the multi-colored area 🏳️🌈🌈
Parker Guest House

Castro - Upper Market
San Francisco gets enough bad press about street crime that we were concerned because we love to walk (and walk) in San Francisco. The Mission area around the Parker Guest House is completely safe (we saw many women out walking on their own at night) and full of fabulous restaurants, stores, small grocers, coffee shops, and coctail bars, a interesting range of house styles and a mix of residents of all ages that activley use all the amenities keeps the area vibrant. Delfina- the reviews saying it's unmatched held true- we had their shared rib dish- best beef we've ever had with the freshest ingredients; Bao-we're from Vancouver that has outstanding Asian food and this matched even our best; Indian and Mexican- lots that's excellent on nearby Valencia St from cheap tacos to moderatley priced Mexican bbq; great small grocer next to Delfina with fresh fruit, yogurt for light lunch or snacks. This neighbourhood is really wonderful to stay in. The Parker Guest House garden is a beautiful place to sit with a drink or to read a book. The rooms have lots of space, are fresh and pretty with huge comfy beds, and attention has been paid to small details in the rooms and main house like fresh flowers and a sun room with drinks lookinig out over the garden make it a great place to stay. Very central neighbourhood so driving into other areas was very easy. on site parking (out of sight) is a plus. Highly recomended.
