Stayed here the first two nights on a 10 day San Diego vacation. We lived in the area back in the late 80's and often include "OB" in our plans when vacationing. We had previously stayed, enjoyably, several times at a small hotel on Newport Avenue located literally across the street from the beach, but just wanted to change things up this trip and were drawn by the wonderful location and view and a pool over looking the Pacific Ocean. We were not disappointed !! Beginning with check-in, everything went well. We arrived a little early and Ellie in the office told us the room was being prepared and it was ready for us exactly on time. The first floor ocean facing room was perfect as was the extremely comfortable four-post bed. Shower was clean and large. After dropping and shattering a just-opened bottle of tequila on the tile floor (which was promptly and cheerfully cleaned up by two of the friendly housekeeping staff) we headed to the heated pool where we spent a good part of the afternoon poolside visiting with Gavin, the property owner, before changing and heading out to walk Newport Avenue and procure some excellent happy hour food at the South Beach Bar and Grill. Day two was just as great and we enjoyed another "OB" sunset from the property before heading out the next day to visit friends in Alpine and, later in the trip, Santee. Without reservation or any hesitation at all, we'd recommend The Inn at Sunset Cliffs as a great place to stay and a nice quiet location from which to strike out to enjoy the sites and sounds of Ocean Beach.
