California Dreams Hostel - Ocean Beach

From the beginning of making reservation till the checkout process. I was greatly impressed by the receptionist named Ariana of this California Dreams Hostel! Ariana is such a world class person in customer care & guest services! Not only she was very polite, attentive, cheerful on the phone, but she is also very kind person when i met her. She went beyond & above in securing for me a lower bed in bunk bed setup due to my weak knee, helped me to take some of my luggage's to my room, and even got me some ices (for icing my hurtful knee) while other services staff just lazily offered a cold and canned same response: " ice are for staff and not for guests" (very unsympathetic to guests needs). Later when she learned that i would leave at 3 AM next day for airport thus missing the free continental breakfast, she quietly promised me a special treat so i could have my breakfast on the go. Surely enough, later that evening upon return to my room after a shower, i found her treat (bakeries & fruits) on ny bed!! Ariana's actions are things one would typically expect at a premium 5 star establishment. But at this hostel in Ocean Beach, i have received these services! I am hoping the management, Arian's manager and owners would be notified of this feedback and commend her appropriately and use this incident as process improvement and in training their staff. Thank you Ariana! You have represented California Dreams Hostel very well !!

I stumbled upon this hostel while looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in San Diego. It’s an amazing value for all the amenities offered…swimming pool, hot tub ($5/hour), full kitchen (minus a freezer space), lounge w/TV, beautiful outdoor spaces, continental breakfast, dinners ($) including awesome tacos prepared by Dan, WiFi, ATM, equipment rentals ($), activities (yoga class, bicycle tours), lockers (lock rental-$), towel rentals, beds (w/linens, privacy curtain, shelf, & outlet), and plenty of street parking. It’s a non-smoking property and everything was very clean. Options for rooms include female only, male only, mixed, and private rooms. There were several spacious bathrooms…men’s, women’s, and two single gender neutral bathrooms. The hostel was in a quiet and safe neighborhood with several businesses a block away…grocery store, laundromat, and a few restaurants. NOTE: You will only be allowed to stay if you are a NON-San Diego resident!!! You will be required to show your ID. I was trying to explore as many neighborhoods in San Diego as possible during my trip, however I kept returning to California Dreams OB because it was so awesome! One last thing, the staff is the best…so friendly! They definitely make you feel at home!

This accommodation exceeded my expectations in every area. The place was spacious and super clean and everyone was friendly. The kitchen was clean, organized and huge! Bathrooms/showers were very clean too.

Annoying people Nice kitchen for a hostel, too many freeloaders, working and visiting the place. Hot tub broken, pool not heated. Old men are either dominating the TV watching 40yr old movies or youngsters playing video games. Not enough bathrooms . Staff apart from the cleaning women are a bunch of boring gen Zers obsessed with other people's food.
