Stayed for five nights for a business trip. I will admit, due to its proximity to the Torrey Pines Golf Course I expected the hotel to be fancier than it was. It wasn't fancy, but it was a very solid, nice hotel in a great location! When I say ”great location” I am referring to it being right on the golf course, which is right on the ocean! The grounds are beautiful and serene. Can't be beat! If you are looking for a location that is walkable to a lot of restaurants and things to do, this is not your place. I don't golf, so can't speak to that side of things. I do enjoy walks in nature, and to that end, the hotel's proximity to Torrey Pines State Park is amazing. It was less than a mile walk to the entrance to the park trails. I was there for work so wish I had more time to explore, but just the little bit I did was refreshing. The trails are well-marked, and the front desk will give you a printed map if you ask. One minor shoulder shrug came from the fitness center. It's quite small for the size of the hotel. Three treadmills, two of which were out of order, four ellipticals, and two bikes. There was a variety of free weights and one multi-machine as well. No water cooler. I was there for a conference that included a lot of active-duty military, so you can imagine that space was at a premium in the mornings. I would love to see an upgraded facility that takes advantage of the views! I didn't use the restaurant, but the lunch and cocktail hour the conference had catered was very good. There is a coffee shop in the lobby that brews Starbucks drinks and has a variety of pastries and bottled drinks, as well. My room was quite large and had everything I needed. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. Shower was large, water pressure good, and the bathroom was definitely larger than most hotel baths.

Worst IHG experience ever. We showed up and got a room that had a nice view but you could tell this hotel has seen better days. They were clean and minimal but everything was worn out, out dated and discolored. We were there for the scenery though so we were fine. It rained that night and once the rain stopped we stepped out of our room and into a big puddle. Whatever we were not letting these things bother us. We were just grabbing something from the car. But when we went to get back in the room just after 1am. The door didn't work.we tried both cards, nothing. The front desk gave us 2 new ones still nothing. She made another, still nothing. We then waited outside our room which is out side at 1 am in the cold and wet as she went to grab the master key to let us in. She came back with some keys but none of them worked because they were ”labeled wrong”. Everything we had brought with us was locked in the room. Food, water, toiletries, clothes, wallets, etc. So we couldn't leave this place if we had wanted. The front desk person said they contacted the GM but he wasn't answering because he was probably asleep. The next person on shift wouldn't be there until 645am and the maintenance guy wouldn't get there till 8 am so she was just going to have us wait until someone came in or responded. Well lucky us she was going to give us another room to wait in. The room she picked was in a dark corner of the same building. It was even more run down and had a view of a couple of parking spaces. Of course I couldn't really sleep because I wasn't even able to get completely ready for bed due to being locked out from everything I had. By 630 I was already in the lobby seeing if they had a solution. Still no. I can't go anywhere and I can't buy anything so I'm still stuck in a dingy room wearing the same thing I was wearing the day before. Finally at 7am they unlock the door to our room and call us to let us know that it's sitting open. We get to our old room with all our stuff and it was sitting ajar and unattended. We go in and start showering and packing up because checkout is 11 am giving us no time to sleep or anything. While we are packing and getting ready the call us to ask us which room we are keeping. (We are a 1 night stay and check out is in 3 hrs.) I let them know that I was leaving. They gave us free breakfast to try and make up for this. Of course it didn't because we paid to be held hostage and it ruined all our morning plans on top of not being able to sleep. After breakfast we drove home 2 hrs exhausted just to get a vacation from our staycation.

We stayed at Rancho Valencia in July and we had a wonderful time! Don’t look any further this place is a DREAM. The property is absolutely stunning and pristine, the service was impeccable, they are beyond dog friendly, my fur friend was dialed in with all the amenities in our room and they have a special dog menu at their restaurant. (Sophie my franchise had a bed for her at dinner,so spoiled). We dined on property both nights and we thought the food was delicious and lots of options to choose from. We really enjoyed playing tennis at the club their facilities is really clean and super organized. The rooms are all very large suites we had a full living room, very large bathroom, shower & tub and a gorgeous courtyard. I can’t forget how incredible our experience was with their brand new state of the art spa & pool. This is by far the most luxurious property in North San Diego and they go the extra mile to make you feel special & spoiled. I can’t wait to go back! If you get a chance to stay at Rancho you will not be disappointed.

It was our 30 year anniversary . We wanted to walk down memory lane . Doubletree Hilton was the perfect place to do so . The trolley is like 100 ft from the hotel , wow !!!! We were there for 4 days and we only spent $12 dollars on transportation the whole time . We went to the seaport village , old San Diego village , San Diego zoo , little Italy , the can even take you near to the gondola rides . This hotel is pet , kid , business , couple friendly . Restaurants , FedEx , food stores , right outside . Indoor outdoor pool , gym , jacuzzi , Starbucks . Isabella is an awesome receptionist !!! Knowledgeable , friendly . This hotel is carefully paced to give you the best indulgence of the area . Great job guys !!!!

Very old hotel with dated rooms. The rooms are not good. I had to shift three times, and the front office staff handled the passport carelessly. Won't stay in this property again as I was not impressed with the room quality. Housekeeping is only available every three days—no staff to help to shift the luggage from room to room when I was moved. I booked a bay view room with a balcony, but they provided the first room, which has smelly rooms and no working aircon. Moved to another room without a bay view and, after a night, moved to another room on the eighth floor with a semi-bay view and balcony. Honestly was not impressed with the experience. No free water in the room. Wifi was not the fast.

Booked a two night stay here when I was in the San Diego area for work. While the property is aging, I can see that they try to maintain its upkeep pretty well. Unfortunately, there were some issues of concern that made the experience less than amazing. I wasn't expecting an Intercontinental (I've stayed at two ICs this past year) - but being that it is part of the IHG, I was expecting at least decent service. Pros: * The IHG website/app were having issues due to the hack. I finally was able to book a reservation, but called the morning of to confirm. Todd was friendly and efficient, was able to confirm my reservation (booked directly through the hotel), view preferences and noted my late checkout request. * Lili was the front desk agent when I checked in. She was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable. She also was able to notate my late checkout request for 2pm. * I reached out to Lili shortly after checking into my room and noticed what looked like pet hairs (see attached photos) in a corner of the room. She expressed genuine concern after I showed her the photos, and had Yolanda stop by with a vacuum cleaner. * Centrally located to groceries and restaurants (walking distance to Trader Joe's!). * Courtyard view rooms have better noise insulation from the road - a good thing considering that the hotel property fronts a major roadway (Palomar Airport Road). * Rooms have a mini-fridge, which is helpful since most hotels don't offer one. * The hotel's on-site restaurant, Stratus - was open everyday for breakfast/dinner - their buttermilk pancakes are great. Cons: * The pet hair situation led me to wonder what other shortcuts was taken (or not taken) in turning over the room. If you look at the photos, this wasn't a stray pet hair here and there - the amount of hair should've been noticeable if the turnover was just a bit more thorough. * The wireless internet kept cutting out throughout the stay. I'm not sure where the router is, but perhaps the hotel can consider adding a few wireless access points throughout the property, since the signal kept getting dropped. * The walls are thin. I was next to a guy that played his TV on at full blast - it sounded like a concert every night. I could hear vividly his phone conversations (colorful language) too. * Late checkout was inconsistent. Todd noted my request initially over the phone - he said he would be able to offer 1:30pm. Lili upon checkin, confirmed it for 2pm. My card stopped working at 12:30pm when I left to move some of my belongings to my car. I waited behind 3 other guests before I was able to be helped and Veronica asked if I was still checking out at 1pm. I mentioned the later time that Lili offered and even pointed out that had my card still worked, I wouldn't have lost 30 minutes waiting in line and probably would've been able to check out by 1pm. * When I finally managed to get back into my room to remove the rest of my stuff, I went back down to the front desk. The hotel is worthy of being a Hilton, with drinking ice water, hot springs and swimming pools. It is very close to Legoland, a 10-minute walk, and not far from the beach, where you can see the sunset over the sea. The American restaurant in the hotel has authentic taste and large portions.

I'm giving the Pier South Resort 5 stars, even though there were some issues with their restaurant. I feel like any company can make a mistake, but pay attention to how they resolve it for you. The hotel is very nice with stunning ocean views, and the staff members all were very friendly. Great location - many places of interest are within walking distance. We paid extra for a room with a balcony and ocean view. On the dates we were there, happy hour with drinks and appetizers were served on the rooftop lounge, we just needed to show our room key. On our last morning, we planned to have breakfast on the balcony in our room, watching the ocean. We called the in-room dining number 3 different times between 8:45am and 9am, but the phone was never answered. We called the front desk at 9am and they had room service call us back. Room service said that they were understaffed and we should call back in 90 minutes to place our order. Call back at 10:30am to order breakfast when checkout is 11am?! We only wanted a bagel and yogurt parfait, but I suppose if there is nobody there to bring the food, then it doesn't matter how simple the order was going to be. The room, parking and resort fees made this a very expensive stay, so not being able to enjoy it in the way we planned was very disappointing. On prior day we did eat at the restaurant, then after we finished, waited over 10 minutes for our check and after we said we were going to charge it to the room, that took another 10 minutes. Again, the restaurant Toasted was probably understaffed. I understand that is a common issue with many companies, but keep in mind that this is an expensive resort with expensive fees. I discussed our concerns with management, and received an apology along with a satisfactory resolution. We will try Pier South again someday, but at this time I cannot even say whether or not they actually offer room service.
