Ocean Beach Hotel

Ocean Beach
We came to San Diego to visit some friends we haven’t seen in awhile. We chose the Ocean Beach Hotel because of the location. It is close to the pier and walking distance to so many things. Overall, it was a nice hotel. There is free self-parking and the hotel is well-maintained. Eduardo was so friendly and helpful, suggesting places to visit and eat. The room was neat and the balcony had a nice view of the ocean. We were happy that it had a refrigerator to hold our drinks and fruits. The only major negative was it was a little noisy and the neighboring area felt a bit sketchy, but I’d come back again for sure.
Staybridge Suites Carlsbad - San Diego

As soon as we checked in and got to our suite late on Saturday night, we found a foul smell to our room - it was an accessible room. We asked right away to switch rooms and they offered to come and use air freshner as now rooms. We were exhausted after long flight and had young children and no way to open window. We fell asleep and went out next day and by that time figured out it wasn't what front desk said that it was just a hot day and not aired out - guess the previous occupant didn't get their dog out in time and by the tv in bedroom it was a disgusting smell. Just so gross. Second day we asked to move and again, they said they couldn't. They never cleaned and just put air freshner. inally 3rd day we were moved - and this time, ground floor next to basketball courts. Each day we had to ask them to take the basketball as people were playing before 8am and after 10pm. Just crazy. After all this and talking to multiple people, we finally got a night comped supposedly but bet if we check credit card, they never did. Do not stay here. Crowded in hot tub, crowded for breakfast and they don't clean up after people's pets have accidents. Just gross and they didn't make it right by far. Worst hotel experience ever.
Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines

Black's Beach
Stayed for five nights for a business trip. I will admit, due to its proximity to the Torrey Pines Golf Course I expected the hotel to be fancier than it was. It wasn't fancy, but it was a very solid, nice hotel in a great location! When I say ”great location” I am referring to it being right on the golf course, which is right on the ocean! The grounds are beautiful and serene. Can't be beat! If you are looking for a location that is walkable to a lot of restaurants and things to do, this is not your place. I don't golf, so can't speak to that side of things. I do enjoy walks in nature, and to that end, the hotel's proximity to Torrey Pines State Park is amazing. It was less than a mile walk to the entrance to the park trails. I was there for work so wish I had more time to explore, but just the little bit I did was refreshing. The trails are well-marked, and the front desk will give you a printed map if you ask. One minor shoulder shrug came from the fitness center. It's quite small for the size of the hotel. Three treadmills, two of which were out of order, four ellipticals, and two bikes. There was a variety of free weights and one multi-machine as well. No water cooler. I was there for a conference that included a lot of active-duty military, so you can imagine that space was at a premium in the mornings. I would love to see an upgraded facility that takes advantage of the views! I didn't use the restaurant, but the lunch and cocktail hour the conference had catered was very good. There is a coffee shop in the lobby that brews Starbucks drinks and has a variety of pastries and bottled drinks, as well. My room was quite large and had everything I needed. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. Shower was large, water pressure good, and the bathroom was definitely larger than most hotel baths.
Extended Stay America Suites - San Diego - Oceanside

After staying at the ESA San Diego-Hotel Circle, we only look for ESA to stay at on our trips. My husband works all over California, but mainly in the San Diego area so we are on the road almost more than at home. And since we never know how long the job will last until the next one, we usually bring a lot of stuff with us. Since finding ESA, we no longer have to bring our own electric skillet and pots and pans, which saves us a lot of space. I love the kitchen and the full size fridge. And I think it's a requirement that the ladies and gents that work the desk are friendly and helpful because they've all gone out of their way to make sure we have what we need. Our room this trip faces the golf course. Cool, you may say but not so much. First there are bushes blocking the actual view PLUS, did you know they mow golf courses every other day, at 5:30 in the morning? Yes they do. But that aside, everything is as expected. Clean room, nice guests, and a clean bbq area complete with umbrella's. The staff is able to answer all my questions, get me whatever I need, and help anyway possible. The king bed was soft (a little bit too soft for my back however). My only complaint about this ESA is the TV has no guide on it and some of the stations flicker. BUT, the remote has a sleep timer on it which is great for me because I can't go to sleep without some type of noise or sound (other than snoring from my husband). I highly recommend this ESA or any ESA wherever you are going. They will bend over backwards to help you if they can. Oh and another great thing about this ESA is there are a lot of stores just minutes away. My son and I walked to the grocery store, that's how close they are. I'm very thankful for Extended Stay America and I know you will be too if you choose to stay here.
Horton Grand Hotel
4.2/5104 Reviews
Downtown San Diego
Horton is a very old hotel with a beautiful lobby, elegant blue and white design, and a string of lights on the trees in the yard. Stairs and elevators are old and new, and they are well protected. We booked two nights with two twin rooms with fireplaces, on the second floor, two squatting rooms but the layout was different. The room facilities and services are to be spit. The leaks in the bathtubs of our two rooms have bluish spots. The water in one room sink is only hot and the hot water is very hot. The fireplace in both rooms is not easy to use. One of them is completely can not open. Some of us have a fever, call the front desk 3 times and wait an hour to get a blanket. It is worth mentioning that most of the hotels in the West are very thin, the pillows are very high, and Horton only has blankets. The service staff did not smile and was not enthusiastic, and could not match the services of other hotels in our time. Regarding parking, the hotel does not have free parking and a one-way street. Paid parking is expensive, we parked in a nearby public car park, there are many homes around, we found the cheapest is $15 a day, opposite the cvs pharmacy. Regarding dining, the hotel does not include breakfast, and the breakfast is not cheap. Starbucks is on the corner of the street. It is about 5 minutes drive from the famous cafe 21. You can eat brunch.
Harbor Inn & Suites Oceanside

My husband and I have been staying in this hotel once or twice a year for the last 15 years. In early September 2023, we had a room overlooking the parking lot/harbor slips. We stayed for three nights. The hotel has no air conditioning. The weekend was exceptionally hot so we had a fan in the room which was very dirty and loud. The couch and carpet in the entire unit was filthy and stunk like urine, beer and cigarettes. The living room had no lamp. We relied on the overhead, outdated, ceiling fixture over the dining table for light. The bedroom made you feel you were in prison. All walls and doors were stark white and not one piece of artwork on any wall. The bathroom was dirty and the shower/bathtub had black mold in the calking. The drawers and cabinets had spider webs in them. The hairdryer wall unit had broken off of the wall and was shoved in a drawer not reinstalled. There were no fire sprinklers or carbon monoxide alarm fixtures. There appeared to be one smoke alarm on the hall wall (not on the ceiling ?). Don’t know if it was working. We lived nearby in Carlsbad for years so we come back to this area often. We have seen a steady decline of this property over the last four or five years. We were disappointed to see just how far down it has slipped. We will not be returning. It was a total waste of our hard earned dollars. They charge a high rate for such a low quality room ……. hardly a “suite”.
