Château d'Hodebert

The Chateau d'Hodebert is a lovely, enchanting, historic chateau set in a beautiful, tranquil setting. It was the perfect base for us to explore six of the historic chateaus in the Loire Valley. The room was incredibly comfortable. The breakfast, composted of delicious homemade bread as well as a variety of wonderful cheeses, jams & fruit was the perfect way to being our day of exploration. We enjoyed a dinner composed of wine, bread, cheese, fruit & pastries that we picked up locally, each night on the terrace. Our hosts are charming people who welcome you to their family & ancestral home. Our stay at the Chateau d'Hodebert will always remain in our memoires as a very special, enchanting time in our lives. Wonderful and uniquely furbished chateau with lots of authentic and beautiful furniture, paintings, etc. Highly refined and warm atmosphere. Use of various great colours in the many rooms. Fresh flowers on the breakfast table each morning, home made bread and marmelade, fruit from the garden; everything clearly prepared with lots of love. A cupboard with polished silver in the dining room. Everything a feast for the eyes, like the lovely and very attentive host herself, Ivana. Beautiful, private premises with two donkeys, two horses and a large pond. One can have a lovely stroll out there. It was like paradise for my sister and me. We stayed for five nights in the lovely room Pivoine. The family shows a sincere love for people and for animals; they also raised a duckling named Canette which is tame and frequently found in the small pond in front of the main entrance to Château D'Hodebert. The chateau also has an excellent website with many charming photos, videos and all the information one might possibly need.

Château d’Hodebert is a well kept secret for those who appreciate an intimate setting for their stay in the Loire Valley. Three well furnished, comfortable, spacious, up to standard rooms are waiting for you in a very much lived in country house of a young family. The service provided is impeccable and très à la Française. You start the day with a breakfast in the stylish salle à manger, which you share with, for example, a famous American photographer of flowers, living in the Provence, and her family, or a mother and daughter from Martha’s Vineyard, or a Swedish couple. In the mean time you have your croissants, spelt bread, confitures, regional cheeses, yoghurt, various sorts of tea, coffee and home made smoothies. During summer you can enjoy the swimming pool which is located near the écuries and an impeccably maintained French ‘parterre’, or read a book and have a glass of wine at the open fire in the salon, or try your skills in the billiard room. Hodebert exudes a lifestyle you associate with well being and France at its best. From Hodebert all châteaux and historic towns are within reasonable distance (Le Lude, Ussé, Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Cheverny, Chambord). Many excellent restaurants are within 30 minutes drive from Hodebert. All you need to do is giving a call to the châtelaine Ivana de la Bouillerie. In perfect English, or French if you prefer, she will answer you and book your stay.

We had the most wonderful stay at the chateau! The location, the room, the breakfast, the service were all wonderful! Ivana, the owner was the perfect hostess, greeting us and showing us around the estate. She suggested an excellent restaurant for us to have dinner on our first night and made reservations for us. She also prepared beautiful and delicious breakfasts with fresh local breads and fruit, mostly home made and sourced form the grounds of the estate The chateau is decorated with beautiful family heirlooms and antiques that are a joy to your eyes. As aficionados of antiques we truly enjoyed exploring all the wonderful nooks and crannies of the chateau. This was the end of a 2 week French vacation and was the highlight of our trip. I would definitely recommend the Chateau d’Hodebert for a lovely stay in the country!

We had a great stay at this chateau, it is the second time we have chosen this beautiful location and we are sure it wont be the last. The attention to detail, the character of the facility, everything is excellent. One of the best chateaux we have stayed in France. The only thing you need to be aware is that you need to plan for lunch/dinner, as I am not sure the kitchen facilities are open to the guests. It would be great if it was possible because we would have loved to have dinner in the garden.

The perfect chateau The stay was perfect in every way. The Park Room that we stayed in was full of antiques, with stunning decor and four shuttered windows that overlooked the the estate, pond and horses, donkeys and cow. The breakfast was very special with the host's homemade marmelade, bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit and eggs from the chateau gardens, local cheeses, pastries. Amazing. Ivana was a wonderful host and was so knowledgeable about the area and local history; she goes above and beyond to make the guests happy. Thanks a fabulous 3 nights Ivana x
