The waitress who swerved us was smiley and helpful. The view of the estuary was lovely. The food ok. The wait time for the food was awful as we’re pretty sure they forgot our mains and it went downhill unfortunately. The waiter who served our wine when asked what his favourite was and why his response was ‘cause its fit’ . I did chuckle inside. Another comment of his that made me chuckle was when we queried our bill..the wine we chose had no price so the waitress found out and told us £44, we were charged £48. We apologies for being pedantic and his response was ‘doesn’t bother me cause i still get paid’. We arrived at the allotted time and 12 of the group ordered starters and they came in good time. 1.5hrs later, admittedly 3 of had had our starters, a member of the group realised the other 3 had been waiting for their food and were hungry. This was queried and the waitress was very apologetic and bless looked horrified. The male waiter arrived and a member of the family suggested some snacks as we were told a 10-15 min wait. Then the food suddenly arrived (with a dish not requested, had we been given someone else’s?) there the snack’s arrived??. They didn’t bring a pizza cutter nor a sharp knife for the pizza, that was mediocre in taste, the hake came with crab but not much, the mussels ‘dish’ was only half full. They did take the wine off the bill but thats not really the point. All in all it as a bit of a ‘comedy of errors’ spoilt the evening and I wouldn’t go back.

Long long journey from hull to st mawes, lovely accommodation lovely food, the lovely bar manager alan who made the entertainment with all the coach travellers,hi was so funny had us all laughing,as there was no entertainment all week ,but the brochure said entrainment which was an awful let down when you travel all those hours ,the coach driver Craig was not helpful in a few things did not tell the passengers his name ,we all found him very boring, the food we had a lovely choice of foods breakfast dinner,,dianne the restaurant manger,s was lovely very very cheerful and the staff very polite and helpful, they other thing that angered alot of the coach travellers where we had no choice but to spend 4 hours as all pensioners in falmouth just to looked the shops, which was far far to long, the garden of Eden project was very disappointing for me defiantly not worth the £42 ,and the cost of the food was way to expensive, crab sandwich £14 yes that's right, all in all I gave it a 4,

returned from cornwall, staying at Ship and Castle in St Mawes. I have never felt the need to write a review before as I have never been so impressed with the staff at any other hotel as I was at this one. Yes I did have a few problems with my room but the staff could not have been more helpful and understanding. After initial problems sorted I was so impressed for the rest of my stay how well this team worked together in making all guests feel relaxed, comfortable and that nothing was too much trouble for them . Each going the extra mile. All the staff greeted you with a warm welcome and a big smile. At most places I have stayed one inividual will stand out as hard working and helpful, but at this hotel all the staff are outstanding. This was the second hoilday traverling on my own ,I was made to feel welcome with such friendly staff that I never felt alone. That said I need to say a really BIG THANKYOU to Paul,Alan,Alison,Diane,Maddie,Chris,Joe and a really special thankyou to Jack. You made my holiday and you made me laugh. The food was amazing , big thankyou to Pauls wife for her homemade meals DELICIOUS. Thankyou to all of you couldnt ask for more

Fantastic location. We stayed for 4 nights July 2025. Alan the barman is great and full of fun. Reception and waitress staff friendly and professional. Food, well that’s a different story; meals were mainly processed meat and who serves treacle tart and custard freezing cold? Desserts were tasteless. Best meal we had was from the chippy along the road. Breakfast ok but scrambled eggs everyday got a bit monotonous. Seating area in bar tiny, only about four tables and no outside seating to enjoy a drink. Thankfully there’s some lovely pubs within a couple of minutes walk where you can sit outside. Co-Op store next to hotel and a few gift shops along the harbour. Yes I’d stay again but would avoid the food.

Hotel coped well with having two coach parties staying. Accommodated late arrival ( and dinner) of our group with a great welcome and without feeling rushed. Restaurant and bar staff to be commended for their friendliness and team working. Good selection of food at breakfast and dinner; perhaps offer alternative options to grapefruit some days. Great location for watching the activities on the waterfront.

Had a lovely stay at the ship and Castle hotel with our coach tour. The staff were all lovely restaurant staff very attentive and friendly and Alan in the bar was a great entertainer we had some good laughs with him and was always there to help. Room was nice and clean but the curtains were a bit off and would hardly open and close. In Ali would recommend this hotel if you were in St Mawes. The only thing was when we checked in we had previously requested a sea view and I know not all requests can be given but the attitude from the woman, not sure her name, was very abrupt and not very friendly. Later on speaking to another couple from our coach they said they had been given a Seaview room but hadn't even requested it so that annoyed me a bit more we were even prepared to pay a little extra as we have in other hotels but we didn't even get that choice. Other than that as I said before the rest of the staff were brilliant.
