After our stay, I was surprised that the average rating was only four stars. Of course, every review is the product of each traveler's experience, but ours was great. The former/current Chase Plaza is an old (1922) and historic hotel property. Obviously, they have had to refurbish many times in order to maintain a clean and modern experience, but our room was great. It offered ample room, elegant furnishings, and a luxurious decor. The internal doors are all heavy and appear to be real wood, as opposed to replicas. The location is fantastic, being kitty-corner from beautiful Forest Park, with many attractions, walking trails, and manicured outdoors space. I did chat with one of the servers who has been with the hotel for 25 years. That kind of loyalty generally indicates a fine place to work. We did have one crummy experience with one of the featured restaurants in the building. The Preston got our orders wrong, served some of the food cold, and generally made a mess of things. On the other hand, they tried to fix everything as best they could, and were very supportive. I chalk it up to the fact that there were two weddings going on in the building and the restaurant was serriously understaffed for the evening. In the case, I am cutting them some slack. There is a great little high-end, downtown, grocery store (Straub's) just accross the street offering standard groceries, as well as liquor of all kinds. I would stay again.
