American Inn Sacramento Downtown

Friendly staff, but room for improvement. The room reeked of cigarette smoke and whatever chemicals they used to mop the floor with. When booking I wasn't given the option of a smoking or non smoking room so I assumed it would be non smoking. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, but a hole in the ceiling where one used to be. There were cigarette burns all over the bathroom sink. The bathroom was very small, when sitting on the child sized toilet my knees were nearly touching the wall, and I'm about 5'7". The shower head was in a wierd place and made it hard to use. The lights outside our room were very bright white LED's which gave the area a prison feel. There was garbage strewn about the sidewalk in front of the dumpster, but someone did pick it up at one point. I was charged $20 cash for adding a friend last minute to my room, as well as a $20 deposit which was given back to me at checkout, but wasn't mentioned when during booking. Despite all of this, the manager was very friendly and easy to deal with, and readily available to help when I accidentaly locked my key in the room. I probably won't stay here again and would gladly spend double to stay at the Sheraton or Hyatt next time I'm in town.

The sink burst in the morning and was leaking out of the pipe.

I reserved a two bed room and then they tried to put me in a one bed room. Then they tried to move to a room that reaked of cigarette smoke. I told them I would stay somewhere else since they didn't have what I reserved. The owner said he would refund me, but he didn't. I called him the next day and he again said he would refund me, he didn't. This happened multiple times, and I had to spend hours on the phone with ******* getting a refund. I do not recommend this establishment.

More pillows would have been great - only two small ones for two people. But for the price, it was worth it.
