The River Haven Hotel

We stayed for one evening while visiting Rye. The welcome was very friendly and they gave us all the information we needed about the rooms and breakfast. As others have said, some of the furniture is looking a little tired and there were a few bits of our room where a little maintenance to replace missing tiles in the bathroom is needed. However, the place is very clean, they have better tea making facilities than many much more expensive hotels I have stayed in, they provide cans of water and also a fan and heater if needed. Our room had both a bath and a shower. The bath was a little slow filling so it was quicker to turn on the shower and fill it that way. They provide small toiletries and nice fluffy towels which is not always the case in hotels these days. The breakfast service was again, very friendly, with the breakfast options being good (help yourself to toast, cereals and fruit as well as various cooked options) and it was a tasty breakfast. It is only a short walk into the middle of the town so no need move the car from the plentiful free parking. With the free parking and that good breakfast included, it is a really good value for money option when staying in Rye

We had four nights here with breakfast in a classic room. The location of the hotel is very good. The hotel has a car park which costs £8,00 per night and can be tricky to drive in and out of due to its location in a mainly pedestrianised alley. Check in was fine and the breakfast times were good although you need to give your preferred time the night before. Our room was down a level at the back of the hotel. The room itself was split level and comfy but the bed lagged any support. The room was clean and had lots of storage although for some reason the bedside drawers had been painted in and could not be used. The bathroom looked fairly new but had quite a bit of mould on the tile grout and ceiling and it only set up for showers, Running a bath was awkward as you had to stand in to get to the taps - not great for setting the temperature right as it fluctuated. We had a tiny balcony with French windows opening out on to the car park so no decent view. Many of the rooms are like this. Breakfast was nice - the eating area is nice and the lookout breakfasts were good. Downside was only one slow coffee machine which meant long queues and one waitress who was also covering the reception area - I hope she is being well paid! The hotel bar closes at 9.00 and was mainly dark and non-existent which is a shame although there are several great pubs nearby.

Absolutely wonderful hotel - really lovely features including the old walls of Rye! Staff all very hospitable. Breakfast at their on-site cafe was perfect, Rosalind was a brilliant host. Will definitely stay here again, the room had everything I needed and was very comfortable. Thanks to all xx
