Disgusting Meal! Easter meal that was the absolute worst. Slices of luncheon meat and marketed as roast. Charged over £30 for this poor quality overpriced meal. Rigid ordering required my aging mother in law to pay £30 when she only wanted a bowl of soup. Never ever again

wonderful food (we had the steak pie) Service was stunning. The building is full of history and tales and is a hidden gem in the midlothian area. Worth a short bus journey for any Edinburgh based tourists interested in scottish history. And they cater for canines in the best possible way!

DESPITE contacting the Inn twice, before writing this review they failed to respond, or acknowledge there was an issue. I guess the owner just couldn't be bothered to respond, sadly this is a theme. Overall impression of management/customer service is not a priority at this pub, neither is comfort or good food. Reviews are sent out by them and obviously censored, please read those on independant sites. I call it a pub, because truly, it would be a good pub, it is not a great Inn. As you walk upstairs it looks somewhere between uncared for and DIY nightmare; glasses left on shelves, wiring exposed, light fixtures adrift. Landing onwards, it starts freshening up matching the lovely pics of the rooms on the website, and they have been decorated nicely, be aware they hired a great photographer who made the rooms look huge. Room no 1: Rabbie Burns is exceptionally small and wins the award for the smallest double bed I have ever come across. My Scottish to English translator clearly had gone on strike, I booked a Double Comfort, comfort was certainly absent, as was sleep. The cheapest thinest mattress, cheaper and thinner pillows made it the most uncomfortable bed ever experienced. We gave up, left at 6am with grumbling backs. Adding to this misery, the entire room was glowing green. A corridor security light is featured inside the room, what luck it was permanently on..I guess the electrician couldn't be bothered to move it. There was no escaping it and no way of shutting it out: the original door to the room had been removed and sadly no baseball bat had been supplied. Hilariously, when raising this with whomever eventually answered the phone i was told: It was normal - it is not normal, it is very very bizarre It's a security light - it is, it's a corridor security light It's meant to be there - no it is not Noone has complained about it before in over 20 years - you hired this room out only to those sight impaired???? Room no 1 can also be credited with the following: - Smallest shower - oddly not shown on website - Least amount of hot water (thermostatic showers need pumps) I guess the plumber....couldn't be bothered - Most matching yellow stained silicone corners in one bathroom (on the up side I guess they matched the toilet base) I guess housekeeping... couldn't be bothered - Most amount of chipped and cracked floor tiles (do take care folks of your bare feet) I guess the noone... could be bothered to report, or care enough to fix them. Lastly the gastro pub, was really looking forward to a tasty pub meal: ordered salt pepper squid, loaded haggis fries, scotch egg, and steak pie with Guiness to wash down. Thoroughly recommend the Guiness! Staff there were generally lovely, five stars for you all. Do book Room No 1 if you don't care about any of the above, or feel the need to experience it for yourself. Take your custom elsewhere, eat well and sleep well!

Christmas High tea with cocktails for the ladies of the family. Couldn’t fault it. Surroundings wonderful, very festive and comfortable. Staff lovely and attentive. We stayed for much longer than planned with a couple of bottles of wine. A real treat. Will definitely do it again

My husband and I stayed here as we were visiting Rosslyn chapel, which is a 5 minute walk away. We had a king-size room which had plenty of space and the bed was comfortable. The staff were excellent very informative and helpful. I struggle to comment on.any negatives about this hotel. The only thing negative was not ideal for anyone with mobility issues with no lift, but this was expected as it is an old building. 10/10 for the team at this hotel.

5 out of 5 isn't normally something I would give. I'm local and been back the last 5 nights since Saturday, my partner Karen and I find it hard to resist a home cooked meal with out having to cook it yourself! Perfect every time! Hats of to the chef

Great rooms, pub, and restaurant. Really fun local vibe, with excellent décor. We only stayed one night, but it was a great introduction to our holiday. Good beer as well in the pub. It is a short walk to the chapel, and you can't get more Scottish.
