My wife and I were thoroughly happy with our stay, which exceeded our expectations on so many levels. The room and bed were great and very comfortable. We liked the extra touches like the Molton Brown soaps and the Nespresso machine. The food was very good, especially the full English and Vegetarian breakfast were top notch, far better than at many 5 star hotels we stay at. But for us the best thing was the staff, so many youngsters, but they were all excellent, friendly, helpful and if they didn’t know something, they went and found out. We will definitely go back and highly recommend the Bear.

Booked in at 6pm having travelled for 5 hours. Lovely warm sunny evening we were shown to room 3 which was in full sun and hot first thing we did was too open the windows to realise we were above the kitchen with v.noisy extractor fan and kitchen smells. We immediately went to reception and asked if we could be relocated but were told no as they were fully booked?? Now 11.20pm still very warm in the room and fans still noisy 🙄 were told they would go off at 10.30 ???but now wondering what time they will start in the morning? Avoid room 3 and probably room 2 very very disappointing 😞

We went to the bear for a belated birthday afternoon tea. We sat in the common room, that still had other peoples dirty plates on tables, one table stayed like that for the duration of our meal. We needed to ask for cutlery and napkins. The champagne was flat and stale. As I could not find the waitress I had to ask reception to help and they did get the champagne replaced. We asked for the teas at the end of the meal but could not find the waitress so we eventually gave up. The sad thing is we were here to scout out the hotel for a family party with private dining and hotel room bookings, the receptionist (who was the best thing about the hotel and very helpful) showed us a perfect room as a venue but on reflection as we had such a poor experience today I don't feel able to use it again.

Great hotel in a wonderful location. Breakfast is good, particularly for non-meat eaters. Tasteful decoration. Not keen on the stuffed bear in reception but I presume it’s ancient! Staff are excellent. This hotel is a very safe bet.

My husband and I had a long weekend at The Bear and Rodborough Hotel and had a fantastic time. The staff were very attentive and we ate twice in the hotel. The food was excellent. Our waitress Carin was the best. Nothing was too much trouble and she was very funny, down to earth and was very helpful with ideas of places to visit. Carin made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Would recommend a visit to this hotel for sure.

I visited here in June 2024. If you're thinking of visiting here think again. The hotel doesn't do maintenance, doesn't do responsibilty, doesn't do hospitality and relies on your insurance to make good for their failings.
