Merrimac Inn & Suites

I always stay here when in Williamsburg because it's really affordable, clean and the owners are so nice and helpful. Our TV remote didn't work and the owner was there to fix it within minutes. If you are on a budget and want nice friendly service this may be worth checking out for you. I have stayed here three times now and each time it was well worth the money.

"Upgraded" to this hotel as we had a last minute plan change and definitely wanted an outside pool. Arrived, checked in and unpacked, then the boys tried to go for a swim and it was locked. I asked the office to unlock it and they said it was not working but might be fixed later. I complained that they had not informed me at check-in which 1) meant that we had no option to change and 2) made it much more upsetting for my autistic son. The response of the male owner/manager was to shout at me that it was a mechanical problem. Regardless of the cause, they should have told us at check in. I asked for a partial refund but this was flatly refused and I was referred to the booking company. I called them but they couldn't help either as they were unable to contact the hotel. The female owner/manager was apologetic and helpful but that didn't make up for the lack of pool, which was finally fixed the next day. Meanwhile, the air conditioning was very noisy in one room and non-existent in the other so you had a choice of loud or boiling hot. Overall, frustrating and a big waste of money

They charged an additional fee when i arrived and the room was prepaid. The room smelled like mildew and the bed was full of mouse droppings.
