La Terra Del Mezzo

Has this place lost its glory? We had a family 2 weeks journey on Sicily for our first time and wanted to experience the local and friendliness culture of this island. We stayed at 5 different places and La terra Del Mezzo was one of them. We had seen some good reviews, nice pictures and great location. We were hoping for a local star! The place is located close to a small village and feels nice. But the streets and the overall area is full of garbage so it reflects a bad review of the overall place. Nothing much the owners can do but if it was my place I would at least clean “my” street. The place is nice, it’s ok but nothing more. It feels like the place had its glory days but and is slowly fading away. To sad, since it could be a star. The real life is nothing like the pictures shows. The rooms are old and needs some renovation. Things are broken that should have been repaired. We even complained about one broken thing and got promised it should be fixed. But nothing happened. Things like the door handle for the refrigerator is broken so it can’t be opened or towel hanger, the shower door, a missing light bulb, the shadow doors for the windows can’t be locked opened and a broken bed. The list gets longer and longer the longer you stay. All broken and can be easily fixed. But they are not. The same goes for the pool and restaurant. A lot of things are broken. Chairs by the pool, curtains by the Terrace etc. Even the pool should be cleaned more regular. The pool area also got a small kiosk. But we never saw it open. The breakfast is traditional Italien but with a great choice of home made cakes? At least they felt home made. We wanted to spend more time by the place and pool but because of all the above things we did not. The owners and family are very nice. The want you all the best and I believe they still got the dreams and spirit of the place. But did the place suffer to much of the pandemic or have they lost the spirit?

We stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Sicily. We booked directly with them and it was all fine. The building is surrounded by and contains a lot of vegetation, which made it feel a bit like a tropical paradise. The rooms are a bit dated, but perfectly adequate. The fridge in the room works great, but it's a bit loud so we unplugged it overnight. The one thing missing for us were hooks in the bathrooms to hang towels - a very simple and cheap thing to add, and hopefully management reads this and adds them. The breakfast had a good selection of items and was available at a decent time (8:30 to 9:30), though it's quite a short time. They do not serve lunch, so you'll need to make your own arrangements for that. Note that there's nothing within walking distance, so you'll either need to drive to a restaurant or buy some food in advance. You can get drinks at pretty much any time and they have a good yet quite limited selection. They serve a delicious dinner. It's a set menu of 4 courses (4 types of starters, first course, second course, dessert and water) and it changes every day. It's a lot of food and it's fairly late in the evening (starts around 8PM and you get the desert close to 10PM), so we went to bed feeling very full every night. It would've been great to be able to order only some of the items on the menu instead of all. The service was very friendly, which made the whole experience pleasant. The prices they charged were alright. All in all a great experience and we would be back, though management could make some minor improvements.
