YHA Grinton Lodge

Lovely place in the middle of nowhere and value for money for the beautiful scenery. The kids loved the lounge and games room. The place does need some TLC and is a bit damp in places but this is understandable as it would be very expensive to repair and this is an amazing charity. The character, scenery staff and guests more than make up for that.

A first rate stay in a stunningly beautiful location. We had a wonderful night here - we would happily stay longer. The staff are so nice - really pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The bed was comfortable and the view is just glorious.

The hostel was in a excellent location with staff that were both friendly and knowledgeable. Room, bathrooms and self catering kitchen were clean and bedroom was warm with comfortable beds. Self catering kitchen was small but well equipped. The reason for the average review as although the accommodation was good value the food and drink wasn't and was actually well overpriced. I did self catering because the price of a breakfast at £9.95 for a national branded accommodation provider is well overpriced considering wetherspoons is only £5.50 and the yha ingredients come from brakes food services as is meant to be a charity. Other guests also commented that although the meals were good quality they were overpriced for what they were. Alcohol was also overpriced for the location of the hostel as local pubs sold a pint of real ale for £4.40 whilst a 500ml bottle was £6.25 at the hostel and there was no ales from local microbreweries. A pot of tea was also £2.50.

A camping pod is cosy and smells good. The staff were helpful and polite. The setting and situation is wonderful. The shows and toilets were clean, and cafe area is welcoming. Shared kitchen areas are useful and easy to use, and shared fridges are well organized. Well done YHA, and Keep up the good work!

We had a fabulous three nights here. It is wonderfully sited, comfortable, welcoming, and unbelievable value for money. The food is fresh and great quality. The staff are friendly, helpful, and very competent at what they do. The beds and bedding were very comfortable In terms of things to do access to the Dales and North Pennines is very easy. If you want to eat outside the hostel the Bridge Inn is just down the road and the Dales Bike Centre just along the road serving some of the best cake in Yorkshire!
