We had a lovely overnight stay at the Shoulder of Mutton. It was a good location for a stop off when driving from the South to Northumberland. The bedroom was comfy and cosy and I had a great night's sleep. Dinner was very good, with homemade pies. The staff were friendly and helpful, dealing well with my dietary requirements ( I am lactose intolerant). We are looking forward to our next stay here.

Absolutely gorgeous location; it’s a bit off the main road but so beautiful on top of a hill in a small hamlet; lovely people and great food; great for dogs with nice areas to walk, we’ll definitely be back.

Regular traveler between London and the Highlands, the area around Richmond / Barnard Castle is a perfect overnight stop and I prefer to support local businesses. Found the Shoulder of Mutton on Google search and loved the name. Stayed there last week: tasty dinner, great draft ale, comfortable room, and a hearty breakfast with super friendly hosts and regulars. And what a view!
