Hotel wants 100 dollar deposit after you pay for the room

My stay at the Econo Lodge in Ruther Glen, VA was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room smelled like a damp basement, and the sheets were stained—with what looked like burned candle wax. The bathroom was clearly not cleaned properly, as there was hair left in the tub from a previous guest and floor was sticky. The refrigerator was leaking water, and the TV didn’t work when I checked in. I tried calling the front desk over ten times with no answer. When I went downstairs, I saw the manager—Sam Patel (if that’s even his real name)—outside in the parking lot, clearly ignoring the phone because he busy playing kickball. When I brought up the issue with the TV, he was incredibly dismissive and condescending, as if I didn’t know how to operate a television. I explained I had already tried his suggestions, but he was reluctant to come to the room. When he finally came to the room he had an attitude. He fixed the TV but started to rush out. I asked him to look at the refrigerator because it was leeking. He brushed me off again, saying there was nothing he could do. I told him I had food that would spoil, and he just walked out, saying, “I can’t fix it.” I asked him, what am I going to about my food when it spoils. He just said there is nothing he can do and left the room. I told him that I wanted the name of a manager or someone at corporate, and he claimed he was both the manager and the owner. When I went to the office to try to get more information, he shut the door in my face. I understand that not everything is always within a manager’s control, but the rudeness and lack of professionalism were unacceptable. I don’t think I was asking for much. I didn’t complain about the stained sheets and the dirty bathroom. This place is a dump, and the management only makes it worse. I’m shocked it has any positive reviews. This is clearly just a money grab. SAVE YOUR MONEY. AVOID THE AGRAVATION. DO NOT STAY HERE. I REPEAT—DO NOT STAY HERE.

Not great. I don’t like leaving bad reviews. But I wouldn’t recommend staying here the workers are very rude. And if you stay more than 2 days they won’t clean your room. We asked and they even told my husband no. Then they got mad about having a little bit of food on a towel. My 1 year old is learning to eat so she’s a bit messy but they really got mad about that. And after my 3rd day there I also had 1 more day left on another reservation and they would not let us keep the same room we are already in. The beds were okay, but need more pillows. And the door safety lock was broken. And the mircowave made a sound like it was going to explode. And also dirty water backed up into our shower somehow. And for 5 people they only gave two towels.
