When I checked in, I was charged an additional $100 Damage Deposit, which was said to be refunded within three days, but it has not been refunded today!

The good: the lady at the desk had pulled double shifts but was still pleasant with people who were nit picking, she went out of her way to make sure we found a room that was acceptable. The price was the best we had on our whoe trip. The room was quiet and had a safe. Management seemed to encourage return visits. There was live music. The bad: we had to switch frrom a king room to double queens to find beds that were not loud or uncomfortable. The first toom also had a bed with sheets barely on the bed. There was no breakfast-a breakfast resturant was part of the hotel building, so you could get breakfast for an additional price. Would I come back again - we were planning on it, before we had to switch plans - but will in the future.

Prepaid booking. When I arrived the Front desk wanted photocopy my Drivers license for “their files”. I politely asked them not because of previous problems with Identity Theft. Manager refused, told me I would have to leave if I declined. Won’t come back.

Please DO NOT stay at this hotel. Somehow the poor reviews are being buried and additionally the bad news surrounding this hotel are not available unless you look specifically for the hotel name and "news" in the search bar. Photos of rooms on website are nothing like the actual rooms. I booked this hotel thinking it would be a quaint/historic kind of hotel. Instead we got cockroaches, stains and ripped carpet/furniture in a dark dreary hotel. It wasn't till very late when my other family in a separate room was already asleep that I found the cockroaches. Front desk seemed helpful and kind at first. They couldn't put me in any other room and told me to text their phone and the manager's phone. Attached are the replies I have gotten. The second desk person the morning of check out said the manager would be in touch, re-affirmed the managers number and gave a false email. I have not heard from anyone, was given false information, and have been fully charged for my stay. I have repeatedly filled out a inquiry form on the website with no response either. One of the worse experiences I have ever had.

We have booked the hotel a day before, unfortunately without reading any reviews. Bad mistake! We drove a full tiring day to reach Rapid City, beautiful place eagerly waiting to get into the room for a good rest. We checked-in but the room, since we opened the door, smelled like mold. Of course the room was hot since the AC was not ON. The outside temp was roughly 93! As soon as the AC went ON the moldy musty smell poured into the room. I went to reception and kindly asked for the room to be changed. I was given another room but the AC did not function at all. Again a trip to reception and the next room was somewhat acceptable. Somewhat because: in all the rooms the carpet looks horrible with stains and dirty. The rooms are dark, very dark like a mortuary. There is no breakfast included also! Ah the smell, all the rooms stink, like there is no air circulation, the stale smell in unused rooms. If you can please avoid this establishment and spend your night elsewhere. One last item, of course the manager is not available and te only person in the hotel is the young girl at the reception.

I'm not overly picky on hotels and will happily choose budget options if they meet a minimal threshold of cleanliness and competence. Unfortunately, Grand Gateway failed to reach that threshold in any area. Below are a few lowlights. *Payment and booking- I was told I had booked three rooms despite my receipt clearly showing that I had booked two rooms. Staff told me that only a manager could cancel my third rooms but that they would write a note. I asked the next day, and I was told that I had only booked two rooms. I asked about this again at checkout, and I was then that I had booked three rooms! I asked to see the manager, who, I was told, was only there between 11PM-7AM, but they would write a note and the manager would call me. The manager didn't reach me, so I called the hotel again during the hours when the manager would supposedly be in. The manager wasn't there, the staff told me, but would be there "later." The staff offered to write another note. Several days later I still haven't heard from the manager and still don't know how this issue will be resolved. Even a nice hotel wouldn't be worth that headache. This shouldn't be that hard. *Cleanliness- The beds were, fortunately, pretty clean, but there was generally a dingy, grimy feel to the hotel and a filthy sink in our bathroom. *Atmosphere- Dark lighting and a generally unpleasant vibe that felt unsafe. *Noise- Loud banging in the middle of the night. Dogs yapping. And so on. *Getting in rooms- Our door cards not working upon check-in was the first ominous sign. We got replacement cards, which worked once or twice before those stopped working too. For a two-night stay we needed new cards three or four times. *Staff- Some were friendly enough, while others were incredibly rude. None were able to be helpful, however.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER PLEASE READ This has been the absolute worst experience I have ever experienced with a hotel. I stayed here for the 4th of July, from Wednesday to Sunday. I arrive after driving 6 hours, and at this point it's midnight. I made sure to check in to our king size room, which is located on the first floor, by the elevators, by the doors where everyone sits outside and smokes cigarettes. I'm thinking in my head, okay, that's fine, I am just so exhausted. I walk into the room, and the AC is broken and BLOOD on the sheets. I am horrified. I walk all the way back to the hotel, where we are changed rooms to the 3rd floor. At this point, it's 1am and my husband and I just want to get some rest. We wake up to housekeeping EVERY MORNING AT 8AM busting down our door, completely ignoring the "Do Not Disturb" doorsign posted outside. Furious, we get up every morning to say to please come slightly later, as we went hiking every day from 10am to 7pm. When we got back at 7pm, we realized there were no towels. I use the hotel phone several times to get in contact with the front desk, no answer. I walk to the front desk where I explain I need towels. Amanda says there are no towels, only "hand towels for washing the face", and proceeds to hand me "buy one get one drink cards". I don't need alcohol, I need to shower. Amanda writes down a note for house keeping to give us towels and to completely clean our sheets. We go to bed with no shower, feeling dusty and sweaty from our hike. Next day after our hike, no towels, no sheets. I went downstairs again, she apologizes and STILL doesn't have towels. This is an endless cycle throughout our trip, and we ended up going to Walmart to purchase towels. I demanded to speak to the manager, and Amanda says that he is not in, but will be in Monday morning, conveniently when we are leaving. I call Monday morning, the manager isn't working until the overnight shift from 11pm to 7am. Are you joking me? I need to be compensated for my horrendous experience, at least waive the cleaning fee. If this were the case, I would've stayed at an Air BNB to be able to BATHE myself. But hey, I got a drink card! Absolutely disgusting. Gross, but if you want a hotel with no towels and bloody sheets and a wake up call at 8am every morning with cigarette smoke by your window, go for it!
