ÖÖD Hekla Horizon - Mirror Houses

It’s a stay we have been looking forward , but turned out disappointed! There is no reception and no staffs ard for information. Cars could not park outside the room and we gotta take our big luggage for a Long way to find our room. But most importantly, there is no hot water after 5 mins when I was taking bath and the water is freezing! I needed to call the staff with shampoo on my hair in such a cold weather! It’s a very disappointing and bad stay experience, provided that we have paid US $1100 per night! Not recommended!

For the price and the pictures/description on the website, I was disappointed. What was not noted on the website is that the interior of the unit, during the day, was not bright despite the floor to ceiling windows and the photos on the website.Because the windows are mirrored, it’s almost as if you’re walking in with sunglasses on. Also, which is not mentioned on the website but on a card that is in your room, at night they suggest you close the curtains if you have your lights on, because others can see in. I was envisioning, keeping the curtains open during dusk to watch the landscape change. We turned off the lights, but because it’s so dark in the room, because of the mirrored windows, it really didn’t have the effect that we were led to believe. We had one of the standard rooms, Sky. We were lucky that it was fairly close to the parking lot because to get to the units you walk across gravel, which is difficult with the luggage. It would be nice if they had wooden walkways to help with that. And if you want to get to the hot tub or lounge, it is gravel. The “coziness” mentioned on the website equates to “Very tiny” . And on a sidenote, in one of the drawers were crumbs of some sort, and a hair, but everything else appeared to be clean.

Firstly this property is amazing. The views are incredible you are literally in the middle of nowhere it's truly beautiful. When we stayed the weather was very windy so the hot tubs were not in use which was a shame but can't be helped. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom lodgings. There was everything you needed in there. The only reason I gave this a four and not five is that the cleaning was not great. Our room had a left over water bottle from the previous users. Also the cutlery and cooking equipment, a small plug in stove was very dirty. Apart from this small thing which can be improved everything else was great. Communication was great and helpful. We were also very lucky to see the most amazing northern lights. We would 100% stay again on our next visit to Iceland.

WOW! This experience was incredible. The Glacier House was beautiful, the beds were so comfortable and the views were outstanding. There was plenty of space for the four of us. I wish we had more time to enjoy this property. We would absolutely book again.
