D’ Ruiz Hotel

Guests praise the excellent service and friendly staff. The accommodation is consistently described as very clean and well-maintained.

This is an inexpensive hotel (BTW, many inexpensive hotels, such as this, don't take credit cards, use cash). That said, is what it is. You get what you pay for. In this case, the AC worked and the room felt clean, the bed was fine, and I felt secure. The front desk people were nice. The cleaning lady was very hard working (well, she opened my room door and started to walk in before I got out of bed, that was weird, she was very apologetic). But the lighting is extremely dim, you couldn't read a book in there at night, one bare bulb. The wifi was spotty and weak, I had some problems. The hot water in the shower is a "suicide shower," an electric unit that heats from the showerhead, and I couldn't get anything better than "not freezing." The location is right in the middle of the city (there isn't really much to see and it's hard to find a good restaurant, I found one way down south by the stadium). And there were several loud guys in the room next to me shouting at each other early in the morning, you can hear everything. It's not a bad place for the money, just be prepared. No bugs, nothing gross, clean sheets, secure, spacious room (only one chair though).
