We wanted to try a small inexpensive place to stay for a night as we are on a longer trip. Very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the room with nice beds and clean. The Inn is right next to the highway 91 but its quiet despite that. Can highly recommend if you need a place to stay.

Very nice, comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price. The room was clean but had a musty smell when you first walked in, maybe from being closed up and the heat. They need to get to the higher places with a mop as there were a few cob webs in the corners in the bathroom and near the window in the bedroom. My boyfriend killed a spider in the tub. Overall it was clean and pleasant As for the breakfast it wasn't anything but cereal and yogurt, but there is a cute little diner a short walk from the hotel. "the Putney Diner". I would definitely return.

Our experience was similar to that of another reviewer - the room smelled of urine and mildew. Drab, dingy, shabby summarizes things. Torn carpeting, chipped drywall. The place felt neglected. We couldn’t wait to leave.

Clean, quiet and comfortable. What for years was a very good resturant named The Putney INN is now closed. Don't get tricked into making a reservation via reservations.com by using the RESERVATION button on what looks to be the motel website. You will be socked a $43 service charge for the piviledge of pressing the button. Instead call the motel directly and get the best price. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay. Nice helpful people in the office and all around, with good morning coffee. Putney Diner in town is a gem. Gleaners Restaurant accross the main street offers excellent evening dining featuring ingredients from local farms. Putney COOP is also good place to grab a quick something to eat. We stayed for 5 nights. Putney General Store is also worth a visit. Close to New Hampshire. 443

The room was dirty and incredibly smelly - odors that combined mildew, a locker room and cat urine, screens weren't properly aligned with the sliding glass doors so mosquitoes flew in when we attempted to air the place out, stained carpet, dirt marks on the lower part of walls, dusty bathroom......needless to say not a pleasant room or stay for us. They need to do better at those prices.

The owners and staff are very attentive to the guest experience and go out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The Inn seems basic on the outside but the rooms are quite nice, even for rural Vermont. Putney is a great city and the Inn is easily accessible to Keene, Brattleboro and Bellows Falls. (The Inn is located of US91 and a short drive from US5.) The breakfast is GREAT: waffle maker, fruit, cereal, yogurt, bagels, etc etc. Prices are super reasonable Highly recommend!

The inn is okay but appears run down. The bedrooms are large and clean. Not the charming inn portrayed in the description. We don't know whether they are still suffering from the consequences of the pandemic. Each bedroom has AC , a TV and a microwave. Breakfast is included. You can make your own pancakes , there is a microwave with porridge, cereals ,bagels, bread, butter and jam. You can have orange and apple juice and coffee. Overall the inn is adequate but could do with an update.

I haven't lived in the area for 50 years and haven't stayed at the Putney Inn in 40 years - and wish I had not booked a room this past weekend. I feel terrible to be so negative as the new owners are obviously working hard to bring the place back up to standards, but the recent history of this property coupled with the pandemic and other work force issues makes it is obvious they have a lot of work ahead of them. Where to start? The smell of the room was over powering - mold, mildew and dusty - think of your grandmother's old farm house basement after a wet spring rain. There was the deepest layer of dust on the nightstand that I have ever seen. The a/c unit was noisy and essentially ineffective, the carpet looked 30+ years old and the sliding door lock was nearly non-functional. Due to heavy rains in the forecast and the idea of just hanging out in this horrible room we opted to leave a day early. I did not bring anything to the owner's attention because I honestly was afraid to look in another room and didn't want to be doubly disappointed. I almost think the best option is to raise this building and start from scratch as the only way to make this place even marginally better. I wish them luck.

The hotel was not to the level of what I'd consider a standard hotel room. There was an overwhelming smell of maybe some kind of air freshener. It seemed like some attempt was made to update the room a little, but it all fell a bit short. We would not choose to stay again, but, it was priced lower than other hotels in the area, so there is some value in that.
