Just returned last night from a wonderful trip. I don't normally leave reviews but this resort was so exceptional and I want to congratulate and thank the staff for making our stay as good as a vacation as we've ever had. I will say that if you're expecting the cookie-cutter glitz and glam of a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, you won't find it here. This resort is about "quiet luxury" and lives up to the Relais & Chateaux brand of understated elegance and sophistication. It's also what made it feel like a real vacation: it's the only place we've been to in awhile where you can truly, truly unplug, relax and veg out. I felt the true vacation was never having to fight for a lounge chair and never having to worry about wearing the perfect outfit because the vibe is casual with an emphasis on quiet and relaxation. The size of the beach and pool area is perfectly attuned for the number of people the resort can accommodate so it never feels hectic or crowded; just quiet and welcoming. It's a nice mix of both families and couples. The beach was also perfect not only for it's looks (which are spectacular - - clearest turquoise water and white sand), but also for its safety. There is a lifeguard and a safety line, as well as a barrier that keeps out seaweed. The swimming area is big enough to have fun and boogie board, but small and sheltered enough to be calm and safe, as far as ocean swimming goes. As a mom of two boys (ages 6 and 10), I was easily able to keep an eye on my kids while also enjoying a book while lying down on a chair. The pool, likewise, is very safe and relaxing for all ages. The only "negatives" were that the pool food service was sometimes slow and if you want to do other activities aside from pool and beach, it can take some effort since a number of the amenities are not close. That said, we had a great time renting a Moke vehicle (which is the best way to see Cap Cana) and visiting the horse stables was also a special treat. We were able to walk around freely and see the horses, which my kids loved. If we had more time, we would have also rented bikes (which is easy and on property) and visited the Scape Park (which appeared to be a day-long activity in and of itself). The golf course, too, looked spectacular. Finally, we LOVED our villa. We had a family pool suite and it was gorgeous. The villa was very spacious and sophisticated - - the kids loved having bunk beds and having our own pool in a quite backyard was ideal as well. In short, a very nice trip that will long be remembered.
