Marina Suites Gran Canaria

I think i was a little disappointed to be honest when I first arrived. Situated in a fairly remote spot at the back of the Marina car park, it is a good 20-25 min walk to the nearest shops and restaurants, which you will have to do as there is only one small restuarant here open in the evening with a limited menu. There is no room service and after a long trip getting here, found ourselves shopping for provisions late at night. The rooms while spacious and clean also include a small kitchen , which I guess is a clue to the self-catering you will have to do. Also dissapointing was the pool area opening times, while the infinity pool is a welcome addition, the whole area is closed at 7pm leaving you either in your room, the smallish lobby or off hiking to the nearest shops and restaurants again. In general the area around the Hotel is not great and seems mainly to service the marina, it has a rather industrial feel about it, it's not pretty and the few shops and resturants in the area are functional rather than enjoyable or noteable. Overall I found the Hotel operates on what is convienient for the Hotel rather than for the customers, maybe I'm used to a more 5 star experience and if these things are a deal breaker for you then spend a bit more. If youre you looking for somewhere affordable to stick you kids in a pool while you stare at your phone, theyve got you covered.

Booked this as last minute holiday then read some of the reviews - noise from the Balconies, not enough sun beds, rude staff - but NONE of this was what we experienced. Our flight was delayed and we arrived after 9:30 p.m. Vanessa at Reception was friendly and efficient and the glass of cold, cold Cava was very welcome. We had a Select Suite on the 6th Floor and had gorgeous views towards the pool and sea (which we didn't see until the morning). We ate in El Puerto on our first night - wouldn't return. Very pretentious - ordered a couple of tapas dishes and asked if we could just have a few chips as well. Much frowned upon and we were told "it wasn't their concept". Ignored by the staff which didn't help when we were feeling a little tired. Food at the pool bar is excellent - as is the service - thanks to Alima and Nicola (?). It would be so good if it stayed open beyond 4 p.m. as would definitely have eaten there in the evening. (There was a BBQ with music on one of the nights which was lovely). Breakfast was good - plenty of options. Were able to find a sunbed on every day we went to the pool. Yes people do put their towels out (despite a notice saying not too) but I think that's to be expected on any holiday unfortunately. There is an adult only area which is a little more peaceful. Much enjoyed. There is music in this area which I found a bit loud one day. Requested at the bar is they could turn it down a bit which they did with - no problems. The location of the Suites is by the harbour - easy 10 minute stroll to the beach and great access if you wanted a day trip on one of the Ferries. Local restaurants within another 10 minute stroll. We had a late pick up for the Airport. Weren't able to extend the stay in our room but we were able to leave our bags in a room near the Reception and booked a shower for later that day. Given a key to a room on the first floor and hubby and I had half an hour to shower and change. Worked out well. Although in the past we have opted for Adult Only Holidays wouldn't hesitate to return here. The location right by the sea was blissful - especially in the evening listening to the sea and watching the sun go down.

Spent ten here. Fantastic value for money. Excellent suite - plenty of room with a lovely view of the marina. Excellent facilities and the food was very tasty. Very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were superb all holiday.
