Apartamentos Altair

This has been our favourite hotel in Puerto Rico for 13 years and this year was even better. It is always spotlessly clean and the staff are always so friendly and helpful especially Jaime. The other guests look like they are in agreement with me. Looking forward to our next stay there.

We had 2 rooms as we have 2 teenage children. My room had a toilet which never worked, even though we reported it 3 times in less than a week and the maintenance guy was unable to fix it. Luckily, we were able to use the toilet in my wife’s room, although this was a real pain. The shower in each room was uncontrollable, with it running scalding hot one moment, then freezing cold the next. Having stayed at the Cala D’or last year, we decided that we had made a mistake this year, as neither the room nor room service were anywhere near as good. The room wasn’t cleaned every day and the towels were smaller and fresh ones were way less frequent than those at the Cala D’Or. Also, the beds were like concrete, resulting in a week with almost no sleep and aches all over. I would urge people to stick to the Cala D’Or, but we won’t be going back again after this year’s experience.

The apartments themselves have pretty much all you need for a self-catering holiday. The kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave and hob. The balcony is a good size with access from both the lounge and the bedroom. Please be aware that the apartments do not have air-conditioning. The WiFi is also very patchy - it drops in and out constantly. The apartments are located opposite a shopping centre which has loud entertainment on until the early hours of the morning every night. The noise can be heard in the apartment even with the doors closed. The apartments are also located on the side of a steep hill so are quite a hike on foot from the beach/shops. The complex itself also does not have lifts which serve all floors (steps are present from the lift floor to the apartments) so would potentially not be suitable for persons with reduced mobility. That said, for the price, I was very happy with this accommodation and would stay here again if in Puerto Rico and it was for the same bargain rate.

Apartments great value for price we paid. Start wasn't great arrived late at night and Cala D'or lift not working.  If we had known we would have left our cases at the bottom whilst checking in.  We could them have gone into Altair using the Altair gate.  Would have saved us so much struggle with suitcases even though still have steps to navigate in Altair. Key card for Altair gate stops working after 7pm but if you press 'R' (reception) someone usually buzzes you in.  Or to get out there is another exit you can use just round the corner. No idea why they feel they need to stop key card working after 7pm. We also couldn't see room number.. next day realised this is on the floor not on the wall.  There is a light next to doorbell but in the dark we couldn't see which was which and didn't want to disturb anyone in middle of night. Could do with lights in hallway that come on as you walk past. We would stay here again but only in front block (floors 1 to 3) or Floor 6. The way it has been built floors 4 and 5 in rear block look out onto roof of the front block. Hotel kindly moved us (they didn't have to) after 3 days. Our 2nd room felt so much nicer and more modern. You cannot request which floor when you book or pay extra to choose so we have changed next stay to Cala Nova which we prefer. Work on the steps looked almost complete when we left, would have been better had they worked on one lot at a time but all 3 closed at same time. Would have been great if they replaced the steps with travelators like they have in Alicante.

Apartments were a good standard but room service was awful. Evidence of previous guests under beds, floors not swept or cleaned during stay. Bed linen not changed during our 7 day stay?and towels only changed twice? We had stayed at this apartment previously and standards were far better. We will not be returning due to very poor room service.

Beautiful apartments, cleaners came every day, the pools weree nice, plenty of sun loungers, they are locked until 9am but no sun bed wars, plenty to go around. The staff were lovely, food was delicious and so were the cocktails. You can hear slight music from the commercial center but it didn't disturb my sleep, in fact I probably slept the best i have ever slept in the apartment, the beds were so comfy. I will definitely be returning to this hotel if i visit Puerto Rico again.
