We initially picked the hotel due to its proximity to Taormina as we were wanting to visit this part of Sicily and travel around using public transport. Initially, we were worried about the location of the hotel and the condition after reading other negative reviews. We found ourselves to be very pleasantly surprised by the reality. The hotel is situated on the side of a hill just outside the beautiful village of Sant Alessio Sicura. There is a train station in the village with direct links to Taormina, Catania, Messina and many more places. The walk from the train station takes approximately half an hour if you’re in relatively good fitness- it includes a walk up a main road but drivers were very considerate. There is also a bus stop right outside the hotel but we found we preferred the efficiency of Sicily’s rail network. The resort itself is lovely. The decor is very traditional, and I can understand how some people may find that dated but we found it quite charming and lovely. We paid for a sea view room which I would recommend as it was wonderful to wake up to. Water is provided in the room free of charge and the facilities were clean, comfortable and quiet. The pool area was clean and well maintained, and the bar hosted a variety of drinks. Food in the restaurant was quite nice although a little expensive for what it was, we found ourselves eating out more often than not. Breakfast was a great selection of hot and cold options, and often we skipped lunch due to the sheer amount we ate at breakfast! Overall however we were really pleased with the general facilities of the area. The staff were all absolutely wonderful and couldn’t do enough to help us enjoy our stay. In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend staying at Capo Dei Greci and would happily return if we were in this part of Sicily again. It is well located for day trips to other parts of the island and well facilitated if you want to spend the day on site. If you are fit and enjoy walking, it is easy to get around using public transport as we did. If not car hire is a good option but certainly not an essential.
