Wow! Arguably the best hotel we have stayed in . It's hard to know where to start. Excellent all round. Reception staff, brilliant. Rooms very roomy and comfortable. We did have a sea view room on the first floor, only minor gripe here was traffic noise from about 6.30 am and hotel outdoor seating area under our window a bit noisy with clientele but to be frank, we were so tired each night after all the walking we hit the comfy pillows and slept. The restaurant was just amazing. A buffet the first evening, was followed by menu choices, all cooked freshly and delivered to the table by brilliant staff. Erica and Renato looked after us so well as did the Maître D. Thank you guys! Breakfast was the best we have encountered, endless fresh fruit, pastries, bacon/egg, yogurts, pancakes, waffles etc. Usually when the first round of fresh fruit runs out you've had it but plenty of bananas, strawberries, nectarines etc whatever time you got to breakfast. The pool area was very good, plenty of sun beds and sitting areas. The swimming pool itself was a tad on the chilly side but we also had tickets to use the beach opposite the hotel with sunbeds etc and I had a couple of swims in the Med which was refreshing. The hotel is about a twenty minute walk from the railway station or, because we had older less fitter friends with us, a 15 euro taxi ride. Trains to Lucca, Pisa and Florence all very regular. So, very little to fault and would have no hesitation returning to the Grand Hotel Royal.
