A quaint and at first glance quite charming property. However, I would have loved to know beforehand that the windows in my room could not be opened. I wouldn't have expected this in a boutique hotel in an old building, and I was somewhat disappointed that I had to share my room with a rather noisy machine, in order to have the impression of having fresh air. Lady at the reception said that the windows don't open in most rooms. That's actually a pity, and I don't understand, why. Concerning my room - the Haymarket Room (#212) - I'd also put less big furniture in a hotel room for 2. Apart from the huge double bed, which I really enjoyed, there was a big sofa, 2 big sofa chairs, 1 big sofa table, 1 big round dining table with 2 more chairs, i.e. in order to go to bed I felt that I had to climb over all the furniture in the room. Not quite sure, whether it served as a kind of depot for furniture that would not be needed elsewhere? I also was a bit disappointed, because the view of the room - and I had booked it for this very reason - was to be "towards the market". However, there was no market, but only a traffic junction. Otherwise, staying at the Hotel Portsmouth was quite nice, and the breakfast was delicious. I also like the idea of having the guests spread all over the different salons and enjoy their bagels, yoghurt etc. I guess, I'd be back at your otherwise quite charming hotel, if I ever return to Portsmouth, And net time I might also ask: Why all these US flags and blue-white-red cockades? Just deco? Or a statement?

This old house that has been turned into a B and B is nice. It IS an old house, so you have to expect that. There is an elevator. The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. We had a number of questions, which they gladly answered. The hotel is close to the main street/square area, which is very nice.

We truly love this hotel. This is our second time staying at the Hotel Portsmouth, and it did NOT disappoint. The upgrades throughout the hotel were beautiful. The contintental breakfast was great. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I loved the amenties, such as the games (pool table and cornhole), as well as the outdoor space to relax. I also loved the coffee, water and snacks available throughout our stay. We can't wait to come back!

Lovely, old world charm hotel. Friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast was great and included with the stay. Close to main downtown area and easily walkable. Also, free parking which is a plus in Portsmouth. Will now be our go to hotel when visiting area.

Wonderful, friendly staff! Very accommodating for me since I had broken my ankle just a week before our visit. The staff made sure we had a walk-in shower for my disability and the room itself was just a beautiful place to relax! Exquisite decor throughout the hotel and, of course, the breakfast was divine!

The hotel has tons of funky charm with recent redecorating that is bold & cohesive. The rooms are not huge but they have everything one needs. We had three windows in our corner room which provided lots of natural light when wanted. The breakfast buffet is very elaborate with many tasty, healthy choices that are gluten free; they even have make-your-own lattes! Our only complaints would be the noisy air-conditioner & the tiny table-top ironing board. The hotel promptly provided a proper ironing board on request.

Perfectly located, fun decorations, lots of space. The welcome was ok, nice enough. I quite liked the look of the photos but found it wasn’t as spectacular as I expected. We were in a room at the top of the house which wasn’t in any of the photos, nothing great. There was a high-pitched buzzing coming from the parking lot last night that made it hard to fall asleep. Good breakfast but nothing special.

The Staff was uniformly excellent. They clearly work as a team and understand what hospitality is in its truest form. Our room was a bit quirky-very tiny bathroom space, unusual combination of lighting fixtures and no real comfortable seating area. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The TV was a challenge beyond our senior citizen understanding. The location of the hotel is great- everything was in walking distance and the staff provided great recommendations and spot on walking directions. We appreciated the care and attention paid to my husband’s dairy allergy in choosing items from the”continental plus” breakfast each morning. A veritable gem at this price point!

It is quaint. If you want rustic and unique this is your place. It has a certain charm and tons of nooks and crannies to find a spot to relax. The desk staff were very helpful and friendly. They have a great breakfast room and enclosed veranda with coffee and tea available all day. Continental Breakfast was Ok - but nothing special. I did enjoy the espresso and cappuccino maker (fancy). If you’re looking for a full breakfast there are options downtown, a short walk away. There were some oddities - like no window covering on the bathroom window for a first floor room - though the staff were helpful in finding a solution. As a renovated Victorian, there is the typical challenge with electrical plugs and light switches - don’t expect a desk with a lamp or a lot of available plugs. I always bring a short extension cord so that was very useful. Beds were comfortable and there was in- window air conditioning, but I didn’t need it. While my shower was fine, people upstairs were mentioning at breakfast that they did not have any water pressure. There is a small parking lot behind the hotel which is very handy. Access to the hotel from there is easy b
