We stayed for one night in July, and can’t recommend this B&B enough. It location is perfect for exploring old Portsmouth, southsea and the nearby area plus even jumping on the Isle of Wight ferries Ian welcomed us and our room was available earlier than stated. Parking is available on the street outside which is wide and not too busy. You get a parking permit too. Ian is wealth of knowledge on this characterful building and the city. The building itself is steeped in history and the rooms are respectful of this but modern enough to tick all the boxes Everything is well laid out and nothing too much trouble The bar in the evening is lovely and relaxing and the beautifully kept walled garden is a real treat in the city. This is somewhere to stay to fully respect the building and what Ian and the team have done. A great location and we will be returning for sure

An absolutely wonderful stay! Ian and Alex work together wonderfully to ensure every guest feels like family. We stayed in the Oak Room. It was cozy, with exposed Tudor beams and beautiful, modern attached bath. Excellent hot water. The bed was comfortable. The garden out back was a city oasis and the perfect place for coffee in the morning and a drink in the evening. Breakfast was excellent. The location is perfect for walking and exploring everything Old Portsmouth has to offer. Steeped in history, which Ian so enjoys relaying, you cannot go wrong with a stay at Ye Spotted Dogge.

Just an absolutely wonderful old and historic hotel.
The location was perfect for exploring the harbour and the Naval museums.
Our host was a minefield of interesting and useful information, and couldn’t have been friendlier.
We were there for 4 nights and it was a truly great stay.

Ye Spotted Dogge is more like an upscale guest house than a hotel, with a storied history dating back to the sixteenth century and 21st century upgrades that make it a pleasure to stay in. Each room is spacious and comfortable, though tall people should mind the beams in the ceiling! And the public spaces, particularly the bar and breakfast room, are just gorgeous. Best of all are the owners and staff who went out of their way to make our stay supremely comfortable and welcoming.

Will stay gain
One night stay for Victorious Festival, and a great location for Southsea Common and the ferries/hovercraft. Despite it being a packed weekend in the city, the owners sorted parking at the school next door, and provided significant email information in advance of the stay.
Super friendly establishment, completely unique property, a great location surrounded by local history, an excellent breakfast, a well stocked bar, and an incredible hidden garden.
The rooms had everything expected and were decorated in a suitable, if quirky, manner, that certainly made you feel welcome.
