I stayed at this hotel a number of times in the past, but it's been a few years, and I just went on past experience. It was good in the past. That has changed significantly. The check in didn't even go well. I originally booked the room for three nights, but the job only dictated that I needed to stay two nights. I let the desk worker know so she could amend the reservation and someone else could reserve the room if they wanted to. She didn't know how to do that. I've done this many times before, and she should have been able to do this. She also didn't seem to have been overly well trained, and the check in was not a smooth process. When I got to the room, the clock radio was broken, and the TV remote would not turn on the TV or adjust the volume. I could change channels, but nothing else worked. Considering the desk worker who checked me in was completely lost, I decided to just ride it out and address it with the morning staff and maintenance could take care of it. Sadly, that strategy didn't work, and the problems were not resolved at any point during my stay. Things didn't improve from that point. The breakfast started at 6:00 AM, and I went to the breakfast area at 6:30. They didn't even bother to turn on the juice machine, so I had to go to the lobby bathroom just to get a cup of water to have with breakfast. AT 7:30, as I was leaving, I let the desk employee know about it. He just looked at me and said, "well it's on now". That's not a good answer. I was scrambling to get to a job site. It needs to be on at 6:00, when it's advertised. The stay didn't improve after that. I got back from the job site and the desk worker who checked me in badly hadn't bothered to set the key card up for the full stay. I had to go back to the desk, while hauling a luggage cart full of gear, to get my card reprogrammed. I got the distinct impression that not one person working here even pretends to care. I haven't had very favorable stays at Choice Hotels recently. I may need to start using my Holiday Inn membership more. I'll try that next time I have to work in Port Huron.
