Nice, reformed in art deco style hotel . Breakfast could be better

Great hotel. Service and staff are attentive and polite. Rooms are very clean and we lucked out with a balcony on the top floor. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and very good. Omelets were my favorite along with the fresh squeezed juice. Desserts for breakfast change daily but my favorite was an apple filled pastry. Location is perfect for walking everywhere and some great restaurants close by. Didn't get to eat at the restaurant for dinner but was feeling ill the last day of our stay and couldn't eat breakfast. Our plane was leaving and we were waiting for a pickup and I asked for some toast. They were able to make me a delicious ham and cheese toasted sandwich, which really helped me. Thank you.

Well appointed and well-located to start a trip in beautiful Sao Miguel. Anything I needed was procured quickly and I am especially grateful that I was able to get in my room by noon after an early arrival. Efficient and professional service from the front desk, bellmen, housekeeping and bar staff. Fast wifi. Nice amenities. I had everything I needed.

Check in was pleasant. We were told we could upgrade so we didnt have to change rooms the next day, as we arrived 1 day prior to our group. We were given a price, which was very reasonable. The next day, I asked to check out my personal reservation, and was told that we can take care of everything on our last day. I requested to close out the first day and was told again that everything can be done on the last day. The hotel had a hold on my card for about $250... On the last day, at check there was a problem with my card...why couldn't we deal with this when I asked?!?!? Very frustrating experience at the front desk. Could have been solved if we discussed earlier when I requested. I will discuss this with the manager. Now for the restaurant. The wait staff was incredibly unpleasant from day 1. We did not feel like anyone wanted to serve us. Many wait staff passed us before we could order our coffee or get water. When we flagged someone down to get drink service, it seemed the staff was put out. Dinner with our group was even worse service. Any requests we had seemed like an inconvenience to the wait staff. The vegetarian option was the fish with shellfish risotto (or similar). The true vegetarians, had to ask for an alternative, but that was not offered for the others.Not 1 wait staff seemed to care about our food choices. When we got the fish, it was overcooked and very fishy. Even the people in our group who really like fish said it wasnt very good. Several of us chose to not eat the fish, after taking a few bites. Not 1 wait staff, nor the man who seemed he was the manager asked how our meal was or gave a care that we didnt eat it. The breakfast buffet looked great, however the eggs, mushrooms and potatoes were so cold by the time we got them to the table and tasted them. So again not able to eat much. I will give kudos for the fruit offereings, they were always fresh and very tasty. We were about half way thru our meal when finally someone came around to get our drink orders, which again took at least 10 minutes...we just wanted some coffee! Each morning was the same. The worst part is that this is the most expensive hotel we stayed at , and the service did not align with the price. The door men and a few front desk staff were well trained and seemed they cared. Genuine people. But we would not return to this hotel and do not recommend it. Even though the views were beautiful, it was too expensive to feel we were not welcome.
