Palais de Mahe - a CGH Earth Experience

A French Quarter Gem – Simply Unforgettable! I recently stayed at Palais de Mahe, and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The location is unbeatable—nestled right in the heart of the French Quarter and just steps away from the beach. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and perfectly maintained, but what really sets this hotel apart is the staff. They are hands-down the best I’ve encountered—attentive, warm, and professional. Pro Tip: You must try the tea here. My unexpected highlight was sitting by the pool in the afternoon, sipping tea and soaking in the atmosphere. The food throughout my stay was also incredible. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Staying at Palais de Mahe feels less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a perfectly preserved chapter of Pondicherry’s colonial past. Tucked inside the French Quarter on Rue de Bussy, just a short stroll from the Bay of Bengal promenade, the property carries itself with quiet confidence — high ceilings, arched doorways, deep verandahs and period furniture that instantly transport you to another era. My room was wonderful — spacious, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. Everything worked beautifully: strong air-conditioning, great water pressure, comfortable beds, and bathrooms that blend modern comfort with old-world charm. It feels nostalgic without sacrificing the creature comforts that make travel enjoyable. The restaurant was excellent — refined yet relaxed — and the staff were simply fantastic. Warm, attentive and genuinely kind. The sort of hospitality that brightens your day and reminds you why great hotels are really about people. The Ayurveda spa is another highlight. After a long day exploring White Town, sinking into one of their herbal therapies is pure bliss — the kind of experience that resets the body and mind. In short, Palais de Mahe is a memorable heritage stay — intimate, soulful, and full of character. A little time capsule in the heart of Pondicherry. I would absolutely come back again.

A CGH Earth is a mansion hotel set in the french quarter near to the wide promenaded beachfront. The 18 rooms were spacious with high ceilings, and featured its distinct mustard-yellow walls. Due to the compact nature of the hotel, and the fact we were only staying for two nights, we never used the central courtyard swimming pool which in hindsight was a mistake. When checking-in guest were given a lovely drink which had chia seeds and a great taste. Breakfast was delightful and catered to all tastes. The restaurant was open on three sides to allow the air to flow and give great views, and served Indo-French cuisine.

What a beautiful hotel run by lovely people. This is a beautiful heritage property which is an oasis of calm in Puducherry. Very well located and a minute from the sea promenade. The rooms are well decorated and everything has been thought of. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious and service excellent. It was the staff who really deserve praise! What an amazing team. We had a great stay! Thank you!

Our stay in Pondicherry was absolutely wonderful! The hotel beautifully blends colonial heritage charm with modern comfort, creating such a warm and elegant atmosphere. The rooms were incredibly spacious, well-maintained, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. What truly made the experience special was the exceptional hospitality — the staff, Supriya, Adrien and others, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. The breakfast spread was huge and had an amazing variety, catering to every taste. We also loved spending time at the rooftop restaurant, which had a lovely ambiance and great food. Another big highlight was the location — just a short walk from the beach and surrounded by charming cafés, making it so easy to explore the best of Pondicherry. Overall, an unforgettable stay and highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, heritage charm, and excellent service in Pondicherry!

I visited this property in September 17-20 ‘2025. Staff here is very very cooperative. CGH culture clearly visible. I will strongly recommend the travellers to stay here and enjoy the stay and food. Adequate food variety in the menu to choose from. Try South Indian meals during lunch. Since property is located near Rock beach one can easily reach beach and experience the sea breeze. No more word - I am extremely satisfied and looking forward to visit this place again. The stay at this property is excellent. Friendly and helpful staff! Easy checking. Clean and comfortable period room with a pool view. Very comfortable bed. Fully functioning A/C. Washroom and shower worked properly and are aesthetically pleasing. Well-supplied minibar is convenient. The area is wonderful. It is only a 3 minute walk to the seawall, and a 10 minute walk to the Gandhi Memorial and the Lighthouse. The restaurant serves delicious Indian meals and proper western dishes. The breakfasts are great! This is definitely a good value.

Enjoyed our stay. We were very well looked after by a caring crew. At all times we were greeted with so many smiles ! Enthusiasm to speak about history or help to suggest a guide or hail a taxi were contagious. Felt always pampered during our 3 night stay.
