Absolutely outstanding. Easy parking. Clean, modern, spacious, comfortable, every possible amenity, nice kitchen with milk and tea and biscuits. Good lighting. Huge bathroom. Gorgeous views, a little table and chairs on the terrace. Great value for money and convenient for Glyndebourne, only 10 minutes away. Quiet. Near antique shops and cafes in village, where we had a nice breakfast. We had not realise that you had to order breakfast in advance at the cottage so we missed out there.

My partner and I booked a last minute night away but, because the welcome and the accommodation were so good, we extended our stay. David and Val are clearly a great team who know how to make people feel welcome with cotton bed linen/towels and excellent quality breakfast ingredients. The convenient but peaceful location with wonderful views was just what we needed! Many thanks and we hope to return another time.

Excellent accommodation after a long hike on the Downs. Great bath and shower, comfortable beds and warm rooms to greet us. Water, tea/coffee facilities. We walked to the Barleymow for a great dinner in the evening. Fantastic breakfast from very kind hosts in the morning to set us up for the hike to Eastbourne. Throughly recommend.

The property is ideal for walkers on the South Downs Way and it’s only a 700 metre walk to the closest pub (via a safe bicycle path) for dinner.

Walking the South Downs Way as a solo traveler there were limited options when I booked so about 40 minutes walk from the trail. Really need a car to make the most of the property. Expensive for a one person stopover, breakfast also not available unless pre-booked. Very clean and good facilities though - just not ideal for me.

Beautiful country setting
The Hikers Rest is in a small cabin in a beautiful setting overlooking the owner’s lovely garden. Room is small but very nicely made up with all facilities you need.

Perfect peaceful Sussex getaway spot
We had the most delightful 48h in the Hiker’s Rest 1 budget cottage during our weekend at Glyndebourne and Charleston Festivals. Val and David were very welcoming and helpful. There was a communal fridge to store our picnic bits, easy parking onsite, and fabulous water pressure (never a given, even at luxe hotels!). We’re already planning our next visit.
