HL Rondo Hotel

I don't know the old Rondo and therefore this review refers exclusively to the completely newly renovated new Rondo. I also find it difficult when people keep writing about how it used to be. The fact is that the hotel has arrived in the here and now and I couldn't imagine a nicer place to have a great holiday on Gran Canaria. As soon as you enter the lobby you are greeted by bright colors, natural materials and a modern freshness that always seems warm and welcoming. The tables with the large stones, the taut ropes, the open - always round shape - simply invites you. At reception we were greeted by two great employees with a delicious cava - Alisya and Melanie made sure with their smiles and infectious positive attitude that after some initial difficulties we got the perfect room for us - despite the hotel being almost fully booked. Thank you very much again for that. Even after that, the two of them, as well as all the other colleagues, were always there for us with help and advice. There is a free shuttle bus that goes to Playa del Ingles twice a day and once in the morning to Maspalomas. It is a large coach and since it starts its route at the hotel, we always got a seat. Then we went to breakfast the next morning and it really was a small sensation. We were greeted again with a great smile, this time from Pilar - who took exceptional care of my coffee needs. Again, a big thank you for the great, delicious latte macchiato. Then the incredible selection of high-quality local specialties at the breakfast buffet. Salami, Serrano ham, liver sausage, cooked ham, countless different types of cheese (cream cheese, Brie, hard cheese, Gouda and Emmental), freshly cut fruit, various types of sparkling wine, a large selection of bread and sweet pastries and so on. But the best thing was the egg station with Chef Rodrigo. He had everything under control at all times - even when there was a big rush, he didn't get hectic, but always prepared the requested dishes with lots of love and professionalism. You should definitely try the Tostada con Tomate. It is freshly roasted on the grill after you order it - simply delicious. Of course, the buffet also has ready-made fried eggs, bacon, beans, Spanish omelettes, etc. But the short wait is definitely worth it. There are plenty of representative photos of the hotel on their website, so I've only uploaded a few of the breakfast and the great view of the sunrise from our room. Next door in the large fitness studio you can also use the sauna - during the day there are delicious ice cream and snacks from stylish food trucks above the pool. The pool seems small, but there are 2 jacuzzis and the great loungers are really comfortable. The pool bar serves good cocktails until late in the evening and always a nice chat. The quiet rooms are lavishly large, modern and lovingly furnished. The large TVs can be easily connected to Airplay - so you can easily stream your favorite TV Shows or similar from your iPad to the TV. T

We saw this hotel being renovated while we were here last year and thought we would give it a go so glad we did staff were fantastic the breakfast was stunning but there needs to be some gluten free bread/ vegan yogurt just some things for people that have intolerances pool was clean and beds really comfortable. Gym and sauna were brilliant. The only real issue with the room is there is a soil pipe that is boxes in next to the bed could really do with some sound deadening as you can hear flushing and water coming down the pipe. We would definitely stay again

I stayed here in October 2024 and it was an ok stay, unfortunately some issues that occurred has resulted in my review being low. POSITIVES: Firstly I wanted to point out that the hotel is stunning with the refurb, the rooms are large, well lit and have ample storage, plus I love the huge mirrors which are great for getting ready. Check in was impeccable, we arrived late due to the flight time, and reception was a breeze, very friendly and chatty and offered a welcome drink, and bags and suitcases brought to the room. The pool area is great and the sunbeds incredibly comfortable, the only thing lacking would be some background music for ambiance and you are forbidden to play your own music which is a downside as you are treated like a child by the lifeguard. Breakfast was lovely, lots of variety and large open space. This soon changed part way through the holiday after a complaint was made (see more info below). NEGATIVES: - Lifeguard at the pool (older Spanish gentleman) who was incredibly rude throughout our stay, only this one person who always wore a bright highlighter yellow t-shirt. The other lifeguard was friendly and approachable, whereas this lifeguard treated everyone like children and shouted at everyone who had their own towel that we could not use these, we could only use hotel towels, whereas the other lifeguard did not have a problem with anyone using their own towels as well as the hotel towel. He was very aggressive and really made being around the pool uncomfortable. - Safety: One of our friends had a nasty fall at the pool side as she had lost her balance coming down the steps towards the pool. There were no wet floor signs, nor has the floor got any grip. The above mentioned lifeguard again was very rude about this and was not helpful at all. He told her to go to the hospital to get checked out, there is no accident book to document this, and the hotel were clueless at resolving this as of now, it is still ongoing and has been reported to the police to investigate. - Due to the complaint about the accident above, we feel that the hotel were penalising us for this. Examples of this include down at breakfast on the days following the accident, the staff purposely ignored our table for cleaning away plates, no tea or coffee were offered, no cutlery on the table etc. One of our party went to make her own coffee and was told off by a member of staff that it was for "staff only" however this was after 20 minutes of us being there and seeing the staff offer other tables coffee and clearing away the tables but ignoring our table. This happened each day after the accident occurred of which we had 6 days, a couple of these days we decided against having breakfast at the hotel due to the poor service and went elsewhere. - Room cleaning: As with every hotel I have ever stayed at, rooms would be cleaned daily, there were many occasions that we would hang the "please clean my room" card on the door when going down to bre

The hotel was refurbished last year and all areas of the hotel are still in very good condition. The rooms are large, plenty of wardrobe and shelf space, beds and pillows are comfy, towels replaced daily, lots of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. The only thing that would make the rooms even better is a remote for the air con - having to get out of bed to switch on/off was a pain. Sound proofing needs to be upgraded - we could hear neighbours’ bathroom noise and them talking. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and available until 11:30am. We had dinner in the hotel twice and the food was good. The pool is a good size and clean. Anthony the lifeguard was friendly, diligent and helpful if needed e.g. putting parasols up/down. Sun lounger reserving went on so I would suggest the ‘no reserving’ rule was enforced. All the staff were friendly, helpful and worked to a high standard. The reception staff, particularly Guisi (who keeps a small number of reading books under the reception desk but you have to ask if you want one) were really helpful even when we asked to move rooms because of the noise from building work going on in the hotel. A mention also to Gian, one of the waiting staff in the restaurant during the evenings. Very disappointed that the gym was still under construction (an on site gym was one reason we booked the hotel) and we definitely wouldn’t have booked the hotel if we knew refurbishment in various parts of the hotel was ongoing. There is music around the pool but it’s not intrusive unlike the music from the Axel Beach hotel next door. Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings until 18:30 it’s party time. The music is *very* loud (you can’t escape it even inside the hotel) but on the plus side because people around the pool left, it freed up lots of sun beds. Eating out was easy but if you want more traditional food you need to see where the locals eat. La Pergola nearby was good.

Amazing hotel, every single member of staff was friendly and welcoming. Rooms spacious and clean Breakfast was cooking fresh and well presented Food at the pool bar was very nice enjoyed everything we had. Can’t fault it atall. We were gutted the gym was being refurbished when we came as that was one reason why we chose this hotel because of the look of the gym. However, they paid for us to use a different gym which you can’t really ask for anything more. Excellent customer service and a lovely hotel to stay in!
