Royal Hideaway Playacar – Adults Only

WE WILL BE BACK ! this was our first trip and it was one for the books ! It was birthday and the staff helped my husband every step of the way to make it the best birthday ever ! Special thank you to fun club - Alexa segundo and Roberto Santa Cruz and also Sandra Jimenez for the most amazing care for every client ! Even though we felt like we were the only ones ! We highly recommend this resort ! Food was exceptional and I can not say enough about the prestige of cleanliness !!!!! September 9th through September 18, 2025. Second trip to this home away from home. Royal Hideaway Playacar. Great location, beautiful, relaxing grounds and atmosphere. Beautiful Sunrise room stayed 68 degrees the whole time. Beautiful view of the sea, pools, and The Grill. Room was clean from start to finish; staff kept it that way. Had turn down service every night, fridge stocked, clean sheets and towels. The fan that was pre-delivered through Amazon was in the room when we got there, a great plus in the afternoon when activities around pool got more folks involved. All evening meals had been pre-planned via email. Guest services made that happen a week prior to getting there. Ultimate place to go and relax and get away from the world. The folks that work at the Royal Hideway go above and beyond to make you comfortable, relaxed, and well fed. Just can't say enough about the folks that work there every day. Luis, Angel, Eduardo, Juan, Jorge, Genado, Roberto, Carlos, Senor Cruz, Adriana, Alex - Heck I was going to write down all their names and got so lazy from them doing everything that I just didn't. My hat is tipped to all you wonderful folks that work at the Royal Hideaway Playacar.

Stayed for 8 days and our trip seemed to coincide with the arrival of a massive amount of Sargassum seaweed which prevented any access to the sea and the smell at times was pretty awful. Whilst I appreciate that there is not much the hotel can do to prevent its arrival, throughout our stay there was no attempt to clear any of the seaweed - other hotels in the area seemed to try to clear an access to allow guests to at least get into the water. I imagine the beach would be beautiful without the smelly seaweed but, if the beach is important to you, avoid this resort at Sargassum season!! Other than the seaweed problem the hotel has a lot of positives. There are a good selection of restaurants and the quality of the food is very good. Trying to book your favourite restaurant can sometimes be difficult and there didn't seem to be any sample menus available in advance to help you decide which restaurant to visit so it was a little hit and miss. However, all restaurants had a good selection of food so a fairly minor issue and, overall, the food was excellent. There does seem to be a bit of a hierarchy in service offerings with American guests seeming to get much more attentive service from restaurant, bar and pool waiter staff. I imagine this is because culturally they tend to tip more but the result is that we generally waited longer for service which of course made us less inclined to tip heavily so the cycle is unlikely to get broken!! The hotel is clean and well maintained and the rooms have good quality toiletries and the mini bar is well stocked. There is a good programme of activities and entertainment and the staff are very enthusiastic and engaging. I would recommend the hotel based on the food, drink, cleanliness and overall atmosphere but the seaweed is a major issue and I can't help but feel 8 days without being able to get into the sea is not acceptable when other hotels in the area were actively trying to clear their part of the beach. I would definitely visit again but will keep a close check on the Sargassum reports!

We ate at all the restaurants here and The Grill was by far superior. The fish was cooked to order, portions were more than enough, food quality and flavor was outstanding! Our waiter, Antonio Lopez, was very attentive, informative and friendly. He took care of our every need.

complained both nights and was assured it it would be addressed but never was. Also tried to book restaurant reservations prior to arrival and never received a response and when arrived was told most restaurants were booked. Location is good but would not go back.
