We have just returned from the Royal Hideaway a most beautiful resort and what a wonderful experience it was! The grounds are simply stunning, well maintained with peaceful water features! The staff work round the clock to ensure the grounds and water features are impeccable. There are benches dotted around the grounds, 5 swimming pools, two of which play soothing classical music making them tranquil and intimate spaces! The resort has 5 restaurants each offering a different type of cuisine and exceptional dining experience! My absolute favourite was Azia (Asian cuisine), followed by Spices , a beautiful space with tall windows a lovely chandelier, wall lights and it over looks a beautiful sandy beach and the sea! The restaurant serves delicious Mexican and Caribbean cuisine and has a bar with a great selection of Tequilas! Oh and did I mention the best meal we had was in the Royal Theatre? The dinning and entertainment in the theatre added a touch of sophistication! Although we had a couple of issues one with our first room and a mix up with our dinner reservation, Sandra Jiménez (our absolutely amazing concierge) handled the issues with professionalism and understanding! She completely turned the situation around, organising a complimentary massage for my partner and I, sparkling wine and charcuterie delivered to our room, a special dinner and early birthday celebration beautifully delivered with a birthday cake by Antonio Lopez (the magic trick worked )! We could not have asked for a better concierge - Thank you Sandra from the bottom of our hearts! Thank you to Luis Hernandez who made sure every restaurant experience afterwards was perfect! On our last day, some of the restaurant staff who had looked after us, came to say good bye after our meal, a lovely and personal touch that meant so much to us. We would also like to thank the following members of staff: Isis Chuc, Wilson, Mariela, Teresa, Montserrat, Miriam, Oscar, Roberto (Mr Frisbee… you know who you are!), Carlos Cach, Lorenzo Cauchi, Villa 29 staff - Diana who ensured our room was clean and Jose (Chiapas Palenques) who topped up our mini bar, Cipriano Villa 22, the team at the Spa - Norma, Yomara, Guadalupe ‘Lupita’ and Leticia. Lastly but not least thank you to all the staff - including those looking after the grounds and water features, bars, poolside and activities. and all behind the scenes who ensure guests have unforgettable experiences in the resort! What began with a few bumps turned into a most memorable and unforgettable holiday and we are already counting down to our next visit in 2026, God willing!

I booked Royal Hideaway many months in advance for a total of $3200 for 9 days. Our room was steps from the pool and the sand. I was meeting my friend who I had not seen in 8 years. I was flying from Portland, OR. She flew from England Direct to Cancun. Our visit was Oct. 27 to Nov. 6 2025 I am a huge foodie and neither of us wanted to be at a resort with children. We decided that this was the place that met our needs. It's Her first time in Mexico and my first time in Playa. After a long day of travel, I was pleased to arrive at the resort at 7:00 pm. I was welcomed with luggage assistance, a glass of champagne and escorted to desk with one single man behind it. I sat down. And checked in. It was fabulous. The resort is gorgeous. It felt like I was the only person who was staying there. Luxurious first impression from there on out. My requests for particular accommodations were met and my room was ideal. The best thing about this vacation was the "personal concierge service" For every 12 or so rooms, you have a concierge who sits outside in the foire all day. “Fernanda” was who I had the pleasure of working with. I have never had a concierge service like this, and I was so grateful. And definitely utilized her services. Her English was fantastic. She went the extra mile in every situation! I had her phone number and She even came out to the beach on the sand” in her heels” to help me one day. I happily tipped her and wish I could have given her much more. I recommend having enough cash on you or a PayPal cash application for tipping. $100+ U.S. I recommend for concierge The restaurant food was excellent, however, if I had stayed any longer than 9 days, it would have gotten boring. Service wasn't bad overall . Some places were just stand out. Palazzo was my favorite for food, as well as Azia. The difference in energy between the two restaurants was night and day though. We were lucky enough to squeeze into a spot for the round table habachi show on our last night. I google translated to the most friendly hostess, that if there is a cancellation we would love to sit at that table. She made it happen. I hugged her when we lett. That restaurant and the people made our last night spectacular. The best service we received, hands down, was the manager at The Grill, right by the pool. They do breakfast and lunch. But !Carlos Quintel!, Who does dinner service, went above and beyond. My friend wasn't well that evening and I had no reservation anywhere. They gave me a table at the” Grill “and gave me soup to bring back to her. I brought her there next night and she was impressed. We specifically tipped him personally. He, then looked to his wait staff, who served us and gave them the money. He is a class act! Some things that were a miss: You absolutely need a reservation for every dinner. There really is no option for showing up unannounced. Unless it's breakfast. That can be tough if you change your mind or can't make it for dinner Ever

Absolutely wonderful experience. The dining options are varied and so easy to book and readily available. The staff cannot do enough and look genuinely pleased to see you. Our concierge was fantastic sorting all our bookings. The grounds are beautifully kept and spot less as is the beach. Rooms are spacious a little dated in places but that adds to the charm as it gives a colonial feel to your stay. Drinks are fantastic all main brands and all made to order with little to no queuing at the bars. Entertainment is low key but high standard and enjoyable. All in all it has been a fantastic stay we are not the type of people to visit the same place twice but this hotel has changed that and we will definitely look to return in the future.

It was a great experience overall; my husband and I were greeted with a bottle of sparkling wine and some coconut bites. The room wasn’t thoroughly clean when we got there (some purple shampoo in the shower and minor permanent stains in the sheets), but we are not picky, so we let it go. What I really like was that each “villa” had its own concierge: ours was Sucel, a lovely lady who helped us, heard our feedback, and made us feel “taken care of”. Be mindful that the resort is very dated. It’s like “luxury European”. The music choice for the common areas and some restaurants was definitely made for a more senior audience. The beach chairs and beach front view were simply AMAZING: you get a god given view a few steps away from your room; clean sand every morning (well, at least that’s what I’ve noticed every morning), clean chairs, and all chairs have a shade umbrella for extra protection —which my husband appreciated. I would say that the beach service wasn’t that great though: they had one server for all the guests. That wasn’t enough to attend to everyone promptly, I’d say. The pool was ok, but no one told us you have to book the lounge chairs ahead of time. So if you want to chill by the pool, make sure to ask your concierge about it. The restaurants are not 5 stars FOR SURE. Our tops were the Italian restaurant and the one above the breakfast buffet (don’t recall the name. Oddly enough, the Mexican was the worst, followed by the Ventanas (food was not good, and the restaurant has a very weird vibe). There was an awkward situation with one of the servers, who didn’t know I could understand Spanish, but I was told that was the first and last time something like this would happen. I’m choosing to believe them. Overall a good experience for the price.

This was our second visit to the Royal Hideaway Playacar. This second visit was even better than the first! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation definitely visit the Royal Hideaway Playacar! The food was delicious and the resort and beach were well maintained and beautiful! We had exceptional service from Oscar Gomez at The Deck restaurant, we requested him daily. He made our experience special and we felt valued. He went above and beyond to make our time with him memorable! Ricardo Lira at restaurant Azia was also a stand out! We came back to eat with him twice as he set the bar for great service! The food was also our favorite! This was a great vacation and we will definitely be back!

We booked a 6-day family vacation through Apple Vacations at Royal Hideaway Playacar, hoping for a relaxing, adults-only luxury experience and quality time with our family of six adults. What we got instead was stress, frustration, and a clear message that guest comfort and safety are not a priority at this resort. For what we paid and for a luxury hotel, this was absolutely unacceptable. The Most Concerning:     •    Life-Threatening Allergy Mismanagement: Two of us are anaphylactic to nuts — something we disclosed clearly and repeatedly - the resort even asks at each meal. At Ventanas, we were given dessert menus with conflicting nut allergy information. When I brought both menus to the restaurant manager, all he said was “thank you” and continued doing what he was doing — no concern, no follow-up, no escalation. The waiter admitted this wasn’t the first time this had happened. At a resort that advertises itself as luxury, this lack of accountability and awareness around life-threatening allergies is shocking and dangerous. It turned every meal into a source of anxiety, and that’s not how you should feel on vacation.     •    Room Request Completely Bungled: We specifically requested a double room for my two sons when we booked with the travel agent at Apple Vacations to ensure they both had their own real bed. We know that Apple captured the request however, either Apple failed to pass on the request, or the resort ignored it — but either way, my two adult sons, both over 6'2", were forced to sleep on a flimsy rollaway bed for two nights, their legs literally hanging off the end. Worse, they had to live out of their suitcases because they were going to move rooms in two nights. This is not a minor inconvenience — it’s a complete failure to provide what we paid for, and it took away from the quality and comfort of our family time. Additionally, when the request was made, the travel agent did not inform us that the room request was not guaranteed (meaning - based on availability). Even so, as the request never made it to/captured by the resort, we had no chance to even receive a double room. Additional Issues:     •    All four rooms had visible wear and tear — peeling bathtubs, rusted drains, and one room with completely non-functional A/C and main shower (only hand sprayer worked).     •    Property management was indifferent throughout. No sincere apologies, no urgency, and no attempt to make things right. The attitude felt like: “We already have your money.”     •    Bars could have been better. The resort does carry higher-end alcohol, but good luck finding it. Saw one bottle of JW Black Label first day there and it had only one drink in it (luckily I got it). Did not see any more the rest of the stay. I did see some Ketel One & Grey Goose though. Some bars the selection was skimpy and low to mid-tier depending on what you were looking for. Even the tequila selection was suspect. One bar could n't make a G&T because they ran out of tonic
