Although the SBH Hotel Royal Monica was a lovely hotel in a great but quiet location, it really is not geared up for children. There were no specific children’s activities or games, the kids club was not operating and there was no mini disco for the first 3 nights we were there. It was only after several requests by me, that they finally arranged a mini disco for the last couple of nights. When I asked the animation team if they would be arranging any games for the children, I was told that they did not do children’s games. The hotel also advertises that they have a heated pool for the winter months. This is not true, the pools were freezing cold, and the kids were not able to use them, which was very disappointing. So, with the cold pools and the lack of children’s activities and entertainment, it really was not the children’s holiday we had hoped for. That said, the view was beautiful, and the little beach coves and sun beds on the sea front were lovely. It was a 30 min walk to Flamingo Beach which is worth a visit. The hotel had a tennis/football/basket ball court overlooking the sea which was good but such a shame that there were no organised games. The rooms were lovely and spacious and the beach hut vibes are nice. The pool bar is nice but very little atmosphere, just some constant background music would help to make it feel less soul less! There was one guy from the animation team who managed to put on some fun shows in the evenings (don't know his name but he was from the Dominican Republic), without him, it would have been very dull! The food was nice, with a good selection and the restaurant staff were really friendly and interacted well with kids. On the whole, I think this hotel has so much potential to make it better, it is a lovely setting but just needs some life!
