The Placencia

The service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Did not feel welcome at all during the 9 days I stayed there. We only slept there, but woke up and tried to eat and have fun anywhere other than here. No smiles from the staff and the only two people that were friendly were Maria and Leslie. Would not recommend this resort. We spent most of our time at the Naia resort.

I want to preface my review with this is the first time I have ever posted on Trip Advisor or any other review website. I generally keep my opinions to myself, however I feel compelled to say something now. Our stay was generally good, but after our Placencia Resort stay, we stayed at their former sister resort and some stark differences in how we were treated made the Placencia stay just ok and we wouldn't go back. I booked the beach and jungle package and excursions by emailing the Placencia Resort; the booking person was very helpful and worked with the jungle resort for booking and payment. I was notified in March ownership had changed but the email said they were commited to a smooth transition. When we sent credit card authorizations for the final payment for both resorts through the same methods as used previously, only the Placencia payment went through. When we called, the woman that answered was very unhelpful, if not hostile. We were left to contact the other resort to finish paying for what had prevoiusly been advertised as a package vacation. All of the transfers between the airport and resorts went smoothly with knowledgeable and friendly drivers. Check in went fairly smooth, but they did not have a schedule for when our pre-booked private island snorkel excursion would be. The concierge wasn't there so we didn't know until late that night we wouldn't have to be ready by 8 AM the next morning. The grounds of the resort are beautiful, the pool was fun and the beach was nice for sunning, but not playing in the water. Because of the break water, the ocean water was shallow and full of sea **** and slimy mud, not sand. If you want to be able to play in the ocean, take a shuttle into town. Our room was nice and clean, but because of the flexible layout for making 1, 2, and 3 bedrooom suites, neighbors are potentially just a locked door away and sound definitely travels. The shower in our bath needed repair for broken tiles, like there has to be some mold growing up in there. Since we were there during the shoulder season, the restaurant on the dock was closed for remodeling (which we knew when we booked), and the cabana by the pool was closed (surprise!) after we were there for a couple days for re-thatching the roof, making the main restaurant the only food option. The food was good, however portions were small, so much so that we had to order extra sides so our tween and teen wouldn't go hungry. We had arranged for an all-inclusive meal plan (only exclusion identified was some of the alcohol, no big deal, we aren't big drinkers anyway), but were told by the server that certain items on the menu weren't included (not just certain alcohol, but the steak and some other food items), making the limited dinner options even fewer; come to find out when I settled room charges at checkout all the food was included (we had ordered items that had been identified as not included). My family trip to the Placencia hotel was very much fun the whole experience was delightful. The property is beautiful the food is excellent the drinks and delicious and the pool was wonderful

Beware- I booked a stay for festive that I unfortunately had to cancel. I am well within the cancellation policy of free if 30 days prior to arrival. They charged my card in full and I have contacted them for almost 2 months via email, voicemail, social media regarding the status of my refund of almost $4k and no one responds. I talked to Maria on the phone but she gave me an email address that bounced. Still hoping to get this resolved with the GM but he hasn’t responded either.

Mr. Wilson, Mr. Hays, and/or Authorized Agent of The PLACENCIA: Please have your manager or legal counsel contact me as soon as possible regarding my client Mr. Daniel Andrews. I have called and emailed multiple times to no avail. When I call the phone just rings and rings or I am promised a call back but never get one. Prior to filing a lawsuit in California for fraud, breach of contract and unfair business practices (among other claims), I am trying to see if this matter can be resolved. My client simply wants a refund. He cancelled on time and never stayed at your resort. Beautiful setting, convenient to activities, amazing pool. Highly recommend! The front desk and adventure concierge are super helpful. The dining staff is top notch! We didn’t use the kayaks and paddle boards, but they are available. The iguana tree out front was a surprise and fun to see every time!

Basic but good accommodations. Note that the doors separating you from neighbors offer zero soundproofing. We literally heard our neighbor clear his throat while he was in the shower (presumably). Communication was a bit of a challenge leading up to our visit though that could have been because of a change in ownership. I recommend coordinating your own excursions directly instead of going through the hotel. Fry Jack’s we’re delicious each morning with a latte. It was quiet and peaceful with early nights. The pool was large with a beautiful view.

My BF and I stayed here for a week in April and it was amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful, you could communicate with them via WhatsApp chat which I thought was so convenient! If you need anything arranged they’ll do it! Rent a golf cart for you? Sure no problem! Have the fish you caught on your fishing charter cooked by the chef and delivered to your suite? Yes! That happened! We arranged all our excursions the day we got there and they were all amazing! The pool is gorgeous and the biggest in the country… and has a swim up bar. The grounds are beautiful! Lots of hummingbirds flying around. I definitely recommend!

This adventure was absolutely amazing. First time I went to Belize it was in a cruise trip which had nothing to do with this beautiful experience. The hotel overall experience was higher than expected, pool area is amazing, staff, restaurant, the deck, gardens, rooms and condos, everything was better than expected. Highly recommend if you want to spend family time away from typical tourist towns this is like home. Also for solo travelers, friends group, or couples. They have amazing day tours you can book at reception, make sure you book Mayan ruins tour and ask for some others. I also did island hopping, the best coral reef and marine life ever seen. Totally worth it. I will definitely come back and recommend this amazing hotel . Food in town wow. I can’t wait to be back.
