Piccolo Grand Hotel Reviews

My daughter and I stayed at the Piccolo Grand in August 2022 and if I could give more than 5 stars I would! The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful – right in the heart of the historic centre of Pizzo, it has achieved the elusive combination of retaining all the beauty and grandeur of an ancient palace and the very best of modern technology and interior design. A pretty little typically unspoilt street leads to the hotel and a small square where a string quartet often performs in the evenings and local Pizzo residents play giant chess. Beyond this is the most beautiful sea view- we were in Room 5 and enjoyed this view from our balcony – right across the bay, and with spectacular sunsets. The rooms are so beautifully and thoughtfully designed- and the LIGHTING! We had twelve different lights in our room- all flattering, pretty, decorative and perfectly positioned. Also full marks to the wardrobe and the bathroom which I still yearn for weeks after my return home! The whole hotel is light and pretty- every single piece – from the foyer and its colourful quirky furniture to the bespoke Roche & Bobois Blue Coral china on the breakfast table. The attention to detail is consistent throughout all the rooms, the lift, the bar- everywhere! A special mention for the BEST breakfast you will ever encounter. Kala not only speaks fluent English, but is also a marvellous cook and whisks up any breakfast you desire, in addition to the huge variety of fresh fruits, pancakes, home-made cakes, cold meats and cheeses. Breakfast is served upstairs on the roof terrace and we lingered there every morning, enjoying the feast, the view and the atmosphere. The Staff at The Piccolo Grand are a friendly and efficient team, for whom no request is too great or too difficult. We loved how helpful they were about booking restaurants and places at beach clubs, and organising lifts in the Hotel tuk tuk. We really enjoyed our exhilarating rides in that tuk tuk, which will take you to the BBB (the Piccolo Grand Beach Club) and even pick you up from there at 11.30pm! The BBB is a few minutes in the tuk tuk away and is as beautifully designed as the hotel. The food there is amazing and if, like us, you can’t tear yourself away from your fabulous bed on the beach until sunset , you will find that the terrace restaurant is popular with evening guests enjoying a special daily menu and the music and atmosphere. Pizzo is a lovely unspoilt and typical Italian town and reminded me of the Italy of my youth (60s/70s!) The hotel is situated right in the centre a mere 2 mins walk to the main square with its icecream parlours, the Italian promenade and many many restaurants. Amazing views from the lookout by the castle, and a charming walk down though pretty little streets to the main harbour and seafront restuarants.
