The Victorian decor and furniture adds a unique atmosphere. The staff, although friendly and helpful, are not very well dressed. The bar was very noisy and packed with locals. Breakfast was strange - first time I see a buffet with a normal plate full of cold fried eggs to dish from. Rooms were well maintained and clean.

I purposely made a detour to the Royal Hotel in Pilgrim's Rest, hoping for a charming and memorable stay. Unfortunately, my experience was far from idyllic. Arriving around 5 PM, we found the town eerily quiet. As we approached the hotel, we were accosted by a young man outside. To our surprise, we discovered that our booking was actually for the annex, not the main hotel. While the reception staff agreed to accommodate us in the main building, our room was far from satisfactory. The mattress was broken and uncomfortable, resulting in a restless night. Dining alone in the restaurant, we were met with mixed service. While one waiter was rude and unhelpful, the other was kind and attentive. The food was reasonably priced and well-prepared, but the atmosphere was rather lonely. The bar was pleasant, but our enjoyment was short-lived as we encountered a large cockroach upon returning to our room. Overall, the Royal Hotel fell far short of our expectations. The combination of poor service, uncomfortable accommodations, and an unpleasant encounter with pests made our stay disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel to others.

Lieu authentique. On se serait cru au début du 20eme siècle. Très bon petit déjeuner. Les hôtes sot vraiment chaleureux.

Accueil déplorable. Arrivés vers 17h30 alors que la réception était annoncée ouverte jusqu'à 21h, nous sommes accueillis par le gardien de nuit pas au courant de notre arrivée qui a eu du mal à trouver des chambres car, alors que l'hôtel était presque vide, aucune n'était nettoyée. Et pas un mot d'excuse le lendemain. Restaurant annoncé ouvert jusqu'à 21h et qui ferme à 19h.

Logeren hier is een beetje als logeren in een museum. Het is zeker een ervaring, en het hotel heeft zijn charme. De kamers zijn proper, maar kunnen hier en daar wat onderhoud gebruiken. Wij vonden de bedden comfortabel om te slapen. De kamers zijn inderdaad gehorig, en koud in de winter. Er was wel verwarming, maar de 'elektrische olieverwarming' volstond niet om het écht aangenaam warm te krijgen. In sommige andere kamers was er elektrische verwarming, die de kamer wél lekker warm kreeg. Het personeel is vriendelijk, en het à la carte eten in het restaurant lekker en correct geprijsd.

D'après notre guide, l'hôtel est resté à l'époque des orpailleurs, chambre avec murs en tôle laissant imaginer la vie de son voisin. Pour ce qui nous concerne, nous n'avons que déjeuner d'un buffet correct, bon et bien achalandé. Nous avons aussi eu droit pour la nième fois au asimbonanga de Johny Clegg et quelques autres chansons par toute la brigade de la cuisine. Un peu fort pour les oreilles, mais de bon aloi pour une contribution touristique, monétaire bien entendu !

Nous n'avons pas séjourné à l'hôtel mais nous avons mangé le midi dans leur restaurant. Il y avait un buffet, avec une bonne variété d'entrées , de viandes et accompagnements et plusieurs desserts. C'était bon. A la fin du repas, les serveuses ont chanté des chansons locales. Puis, dans la petite cour intérieure, nous avons assisté à un spectacle de gumboots ( type de danse sud africaine née dans les mines à la fin du 19ème sicle ). C'était bien intéressant.

Es un sencillo hotel de tipo familiar con habitaciones de estilo Victoriano y mobiliario que las acompaña. Es un lugar agradable situado en la localidad de Pilgrim's, donde son frecuentes los cortes de luz. No tiene servicio de comedor y para ello debes salir a un restaurante cercano. Exento de cualquier lujo, resulta agradable al transportarte a una forma de vivir de tiempos pasados en Sudáfrica. Recomendable para dormir una noche de paso por la localidad.

Une atmosphère décalée rare , mais avec tout le confort de notre époque. Une équipe très agréable et serviable, tout sourire comme savent le faire les Sud-Africains. Bon petit-déjeuner, chambre confortable à la déco en cohérence avec l'établissement, bar agréable juste à côte, localisation au coeur du village. Je recommande vraiment de passer une nuit au Royal Hotel
